If you want to do journalism that gets eyeballs, sports is the LAST desk to close.

WaPo specifically making cuts to its most subscriber load-bearing sections like Sports and Metro while doubling down on commentary, which frequently does little for your bottom line, really underlines how much this is about what they want the Post to be, rather than what a good newspaper actually is

Sports coverage is more than scores. It’s about the people, politics and cultural factors that drive it. Sports journalism adds vivid color and context to these dynamics. Without it, every sports fan suffers. Some of the best sports journalism all-time came from WaPo. Inexcusable loss.
