A special episode w/journalist & author @danrobson.bsky.social. We talk about his latest co-authored memoir, Hammered: The Fight of My Life by Dave βThe Hammerβ Schultz.
A candid & compelling memoir by a hockey great. Terrific convo, give a listen.
I had the privilege of working with Buck Martinez on his book Change Up β and to me, this passage sums up why he resonated with so many.
Buck connected fans to the game in a way that made it feel both grand and familiar.
As Mitch Marner returns to Toronto, hereβs my story from Vegas on why he had to leave.

I started the audiobook of Hammered: The Fight of My Life by Dave Shultz (with Dan Robson), and beautifully narrated by Wayne Ward.
Raw, honest, & heartbreaking. Schultz holds nothing back in the telling of his story. Can't wait to listen to more.
Donβt miss it. #BookSky

A very nice review of Hammered and a look behind the scenes at how Dave Schultzβs new memoir came together.

Brandon Aubrey and his cohort of NFL kickers are re-writing the record books.
Hereβs my deep dive on Aubrey, Cam Little, Cameron Dicker and the evolution of field goals.

Brandon Aubrey wins it, after a remarkable comeback for Dallas.
By design, here is my very large feature on Aubrey and this incredible, recording-breaking era for kickers.

A position once akin to a glorified ball boy is attracting better athletes, and specialized training and technological advances are pushing the limits.

A very nice review of Hammered in Policy Magazine, that gets right to the message of Dave Schultzβs new memoir about hockey, fighting, abuse and recovery.

You must have been the most feared kid on the street. π
Thanks, Jeff.
Dave is raw and unflinching in his memoir.
Itβs not an easy read β but hopefully his story will offer some inspiration and support to those who can relate.
I hope youβll check it out.
There is plenty in this book for fans of hockey in the 1970s, the wild βSlap Shotβ era of the minor leagues, and the glory of the Broad Street Bullies.
But much of Daveβs story happened beyond the lore. Itβs a journey through trauma endured in secret.
Hammered: The Fight of My Life is out now.
Dave βThe Hammerβ Schultz, of Broad Street Bullies fame, reveals the sexual abuse he suffered as a child and the lifelong demons heβs battled on the long road to healing.
Iβm proud to have helped him share his story.
John Schneiderβs account of his exchange with Max Scherzer is so good.
