Column | Baseball’s surrender on Pete Rose is a disgrace to the game Pete Rose and the other men reinstated by Major League Baseball did not make contributions to the game. They did the opposite; they degraded it

Ducklings all together on top of a large rock in a river. Their mom is to their left and a little below them. There are some tall green grasses growing in spots on the rock.

Happy Earth Day! It's also #RockinTuesday so I thought I'd find a good rock photo. This is from June 2022. Saranac River, #Adirondacks

A portion of a large galaxy takes up the frame and is cut off at all edges, with the largest cuts at top and right. At center-right is the galaxy’s bright white oval core, which is seen at an angle. There is a dark brown dust lane that starts at lower left and ends in an arc toward the top right. Beyond that are light purple speckles, which are clusters of stars, that take a rough halo shape. The light from the core extends just beyond the first β€œhalo” of purple stars. Toward the top and left edges are smaller, finer purple stars scattered in a few places, but a lot less structure overall. The background of space is black.

In this Hubble image of galaxy NGC 4258, young stars show up in ultraviolet light, older stars in its core are white, and dust shimmies and scurries across the bottom in brown.

Good morning! It's almost time for things to begin sprouting and greening up. I'm really looking forward to getting out and capturing them. This is from last year. May 19, 2024.

Bug with black wings, except for one white stripe that runs across them. There are other white speckles, but the stripe is most pronounced. The bug is perched on my hand.

Cream colored butterfly. It has a little bit of brown in small parallel places on just the leading edge of its wings. The bottom edge of the wings is pretty ragged. It's perched on a green plant stem.

I've gone back through some of my photos. These are screenshots of the originals, but I was able to expand them and still see detail.

I went for a long walk on the rail trail a couple days ago and there was a muskrat out on Lake Colby.

Happy Monday! Here's one of my favorite lily photos I've taken. I love macro photography because by taking the time to look at the small things, I usually find even tinier things. Taken July '23

Higher interest in youth level leading to rapid increase of Division III women's hockey programs Former Wisconsin star Baylee Marabella had to play hockey alongside boys up until high school because she couldn’t find a girls team in her area.

Photo is of three pink flowers slightly overlapping from front to back. Each flower looks like a pink heart that is splitting at the bottom. The pink part is earlobe shaped with a small, upward turned tail at the bottom. Those earlobes form a heart. Coming down from the v split in the heart is a white stem with a wider part at the bottom that looks like a droplet when seen from the front. That white droplet sits below the heart and it's about as long as the top pink parts would be if they were together.

Some bleeding hearts for #MacroMonday from a garden near Rochester, NY last May. I'm looking forward to the flowers, insects and birds returning.
