15.02.2026 06:26 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0You can write to your local MP or the Prime Minister and ask them to take action. Also this is election year - so it's a great time to volunteer or donate for a political party. Or if you don't have the capacity for that, making sure you are enrolled to vote is good too.
15.02.2026 06:25 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1Tragically I think 11 people have already died in Aotearoa this year because of extreme weather. We need to reduce our emissions and invest in climate adaptation with urgency. But naturally, this government is instead pursuing coal mines and an LNG terminal. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/weather-l...

15.02.2026 06:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0On The Opportunity Party- I agree it would be good for NZ to have a party that prioritises the environment that can work with either Labour or National. But there is also a risk that if they grow their support and get say 3% of the Green's vote, those wasted votes might stop a left-wing coalition

10.02.2026 08:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0The new LNG terminal! Head bangs desk. Why is the govt so desperate not to try demand management, energy efficiency, helping big manufacturers to transition off gas or even (gasp) massively accelerating roll out of distributed renewables and battery storage system
10.02.2026 08:24 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The right way to lower consumers' bills is to actually start with the cheapest options, not pick an eye-wateringly expensive one and hide the cost. /ends

How are clean alternatives like biomass, pumped hydro or demand response supposed to compete with the playing-field tilted against them to the tune of $407/tonne? 2/-
09.02.2026 08:38 โ ๐ 18 ๐ 9 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0We should not be subsidising fossil fuels.
And it's a whopper of a subsidy: The fuel+capital+operating cost of LNG (via BCG "Energy to Grow" report) is $44/GJ, half of that capital+O&M costs, if its for dry-year cover only. So paying the fixed costs with a levy HALVES the LNG price... 1/-

Imagine Richard living in the human world. There he is, seriously telling a village chief that he will need to sell off the exclusive rights to the village well before the villagers will be able to build a flour mill. The chief is like 'my guys are sat waiting to build the mill, ghoul. Do one!'

So National is considering repealing the Regulatory Standards Bill after providing the majority votes to pass it? It's good they are considering it, but this is also unhinged. Maybe they should just pass legislation and repeal it next day for maximum efficiency. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/...
