Nova
📚 Nova ✒️ Samuel R. Delany (1968) ✨ 4/5 🛸 Space Opera 🖌️ Bob Haberfield
Delany's Nova was a great read - it won't be for everyone, but I really enjoyed his intimate world building. See my review here: scifipraxis.ecafe.org/2025/02/26/N...

I enjoyed book of skulls, but it's 100% a character study with few SFF elements. As long as you're up for that I'd recommend it.

The Escher Man
📚 The Escher Man ✒️ T. R. Napper (2024) ✨ 3/5 🛸 Dystopian 🖌️ Julia Lloyd
Just finished The Escher Man by T. R. Napper - a grim dystopian novel set in a world where tech has made memory something that can be altered, changing our very identities. Read my review here: scifipraxis.ecafe.org/2025/02/14/T...

The World of Null-A
📚 The World of Null-A ✒️ A. E. Van Vogt (1948) ✨ 1/5 🛸 Golden age 🖌️ Bruce Pennington
I don't think the golden age of SF is for me. Here's my review of a pretty poor experience with one of Van Vogt's best-known works - did I just start in the wrong place? scifipraxis.ecafe.org/2024/09/06/T...

Alien Clay
📚 Alien Clay✒️ Adrian Tchaikovsky (2024) ✨ 4/5 🛸 Frontier colony 🖌️ Neil Lang
I really enjoyed @aptshadow.bsky.social's Alien Clay, which you can currently grab for 99p on Kindle UK! I have a soft spot for colony stories, and one with such an imaginative ecology hits all the right notes for me, highly recommended. Read my review here: scifipraxis.ecafe.org/2025/01/01/A...

Downward to the Earth
📚 Downward to the Earth ✒️ Robert Silverberg (1971) ✨ 4/5 🛸 Spiritual journey 🖌️ Uncredited
Downward To The Earth is my second Silverberg read and rightly deserves it's classic status. Should I try his Lord Valentine series next or stick with his standalones? scifipraxis.ecafe.org/2025/02/02/D...

The rest of the series is high on my tbr. It's a great feeling when you first read a new author and have their whole bibliography ahead of you 😁

Planetfall
📚 Planetfall ✒️ Emma Newman (2015) ✨ 5/5 🛸 Frontier colony 🖌️ Adam Auerbach
My top read of January was @emmanewman.bsky.social's wonderful Planetfall - I'm a sucker for a frontier colony tale, and this one was a five star read. scifipraxis.ecafe.org/2025/01/26/P...

Other Days Other eyes sounds interesting. Reminds me of a Harry Harrison book 'One Step From Earth' I read when younger, which is a set of short stories exploring the varied impact of instantaneous transportation through teleport action doors.

The Shadow of the Torturer
📚 The Shadow of the Torturer ✒️ Gene Wolfe (1980) ✨ 3/5 🛸 Dying earth fantasy 🖌️ Bruce Pennington
My review for Shadow of the Torturer - this one almost certainly needs another read and to look at it as a whole with the sequels. scifipraxis.ecafe.org/2024/09/04/T...
