A social post by Nat Farah describing a protest outside The Wickham hotel in Maganjin, which is hosting a meeting of the Queensland Zionist Council against the wishes of staff and community. The post enthuses about the solidarity shown by workers with the Palestinian cause, with some having quit in protest or refused to work during the meeting. It describes security guards distributing pizzas to protesters and asserting that the workers united will never be defeated.

I want people to know what’s going down at one of Maganjin’s oldest and most important queer venues tonight. What isn’t said below - most of this happened with only a few hours of notice. The crowd is choking the venue on all sides. There is a world beyond genocidal bloodthirst and it’s beautiful.

Anyway, today marks 2 years since I started taking blockers and I haven't regretted a second of it.

One of the most affirming/euphoric things since starting HRT is that bit where I'm putting on clothes but I have to move my body in an odd way to pull my pants/shorts/dress/skirt over my hips because my butt is bigger now.

Someone was showing me videos in my dream, but they were obviously ai generated.

I appreciate that human creativity (a dream) could perfectly replicate the gross, unsettling, uncanny valley look of objects in movement, while ai tries to replicate reality and just ends up looking like trash.

And to those who cannot be out today, whether you're not ready or it's simply not safe - I want to say that we see you, we are with you, and that this day is also for you. There is so much joy on the other side of fear. 🏳️‍⚧️

Being public in this environment is always going to come at some personal cost. But the only way that we have ever won something as a community is by fighting for it, by being visible, public and loud.

I don't know if I've ever dreamed of darkness? That seems horrifying without the noises.

My "inside ma'am" confirmed the 4 stalls aren't really ever full, so it seems that some people just like the privacy.

This is all so unimportant. Writing it here gets it out of my head, though, so I don't have to think about it and have it be yet another (tiny) source of work anxiety.

It's frustrating, like I can't say anything, but then the men's bathroom stalls keep being occupied and I can't pee standing up.

Maybe the women's stalls keep being occupied, too? We have an imbalance on my floor so that's possible. I need to investigate. Confirmation will make me feel better.

It keeps being occupied by quite a number of people (I've seen 3 so far today) who may just be using it because it's the most private.

I'm the only one with a _visible_ disability and I'm the only _open_ non-binary person here. I cant know for sure they don't need it, though.

I started using the accessible bathroom at work by default because it's also the only gender neutral one.

I hate using the men's and I feel even more weird using the women's.

I'm drinking more water more often so I'm going a number of times a day.

I have been using queer use to refer to how things can be used in ways other than for which they were intended or by those other than for whom they were intended. I did not realize when I first used queer use in this way that it had been used like this before: queer use as reused. In fact you can find many newspaper articles from the late nineteenth century that use queer use in exactly this way—articles that refer to the queer uses of cups, bicycles, cigars, and cloisters. One article that appeared in the Los Angeles Herald on August 28, 1899, is titled “Queer Use for Cloisters.” It stated: “The cloisters of the Church of St. Ethelreda, Ely palace, Holborn, London, are now being used for a purpose very different from that for which they were originally intended. Father Jarvis . . . has placed them at the disposal of any cyclist who may wish to store his machine while at- tending divine services.”1 One wonders whether cloisters could be used to store more than “his machines.” Queer use is used here in a similar way to how I have been using it: queer use as when you use something for a pur- pose that is “very different” from that which was “originally intended.”
