🚨I promised I'd say more on the Royal Society and Elon Musk, so here it is. 🚨

I've resigned my position as Associate Editor at Royal Society's journal Open Science in protest at their lack of action over Elon Musk.

As the brilliant @petraboynton.bsky.social has pointed out, this piece makes no mention of FRS Elon Musk who is directly responsible for much of the threat science is currently under.

If you are looking for a case study of words versus actions in terms of empty corporate EDI then the Royal Society is absolutely it

Latest blogpost on Musk/Royal Society debacle: deevybee.blogspot.com/2025/02/seve... I look at the reasons that have been given for inaction, and find them wanting. @royalsociety.org

I'm trying to get more information about the reasons for the RS's inaction, but frankly I find it hard to imagine anything that can counteract the compelling case Dorothy makes here.

The longer that the Royal Society continues to squirm and give lame excuses and shuffle its feet and stare at the floor, rather than actually standing up for science -- which is what it exists to do -- the more its credibility will suffer. Shame, shame on you, Royal Society.

Nothing to see here. Just Elon Musk FRS retweeting an incendiary statement about @royalsociety.org's Foreign Member Anthony Fauci at the point when Trump removed Fauci's protection.
Need for preemptive pardon amplified when Musk previously tweeted "prosecute Fauci".
