Premium tax credits brought Amy's health insurance premiums down to just $30 a month. She says if her premiums go up to $100 a month, that would “probably put her over the edge.”

Amy Bielawski had been uninsured for most of her life until the enhanced premium tax credits began in 2021. She relies on insurance to cover doctors’ visits and prescriptions for a thyroid disorder.

Congress must come together to open the government and pass a permanent extension of the enhanced tax credits, period.

When Republicans in Congress passed huge, permanent tax credits for billionaires and big corporations this summer, they blocked multiple attempts and amendments to similarly extend the tax credits that help working families pay their health insurance premiums.

We shouldn’t need a shutdown to prevent a massive spike in health insurance premiums.
