One of my most cherished classes is my 18th century novels course where the primary learning objective is "learn how read long novels." We did a "couch to 5k" approach to attention span and note-taking.

A group, one of many, holding candles in honor of a community member executed by an unaccountable paramilitary invasion force

This is Minneapolis.

Literally every corner along Lake St. packed with people holding candles, many singing, honoring a person who by all accounts was an absolute gem of a human, whose life was tragically stolen by a fascist, paramilitary occupation force.

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like RenΓ©e Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

In relationships where we are anticipating someone else's emotions and crises, how can we care for our own? M. Lopes da Silva's "the fireman" follows this metaphor: the labor of putting out fires while our own burn too. forge.tips/zine

Ideally, yes. However in practice, queer people can still be attached to harmful ideas of sexual compulsion/expectation and practice them (to the benefit of no one).

Queerness is beautiful, but queer sex is not immune from SA/sexual compulsion, nor does it work as a substitute for therapy.

Conflating newness with progress is bullshit. Just because AI is new doesn’t mean it’s β€œour future” or inevitable. Arsenic wallpaper was new. Hydrogen dirigibles were new. Now they’re nothing but history lessons.

People keep saying that AI is inevitable.

Like Bartleby, I'd prefer not to...

We "have to use it!"

My response to that is simply... WHY? Why is it being pushed so much and into so many things? Once you've gotten people to cede their decision making to an algorithm, eventually they'll stop thinking for themselves.

Why would I outsource thinking for myself to a machine? I have a brain.
