If you want book recommendations for a loved one for the holiday season (or for yourself), give me some parameters—genres, settings, moods, etc.—and I’ll give you some ideas. I read about 80% fiction and 20% nonfiction.

even the smartest folks whose takes i otherwise appreciate, who otherwise want to resist fascism themselves & encourage others to, find wearing a mask in, at least, public indoor spaces—to prevent the harms of this administration from impacting others—to be a bridge too far; it’s shameful, frankly.

I can’t really do slashers (too chicken) unless they’re horror comedies or like this one, where it’s all about framing and shots (like looking up at a character through the rotary dial of a landline phone).

Fun! Grocery stores (and malls) are my favorite horror movie locations. They did a good job with the “annoying and toxic but family” vibe of people who work night shift together. No captions on Tubi so cone of shame for my beloved.

We still need help covering this ask! $125 in so far! $1475 to go!

We covered a total of $1,973 in eviction prevention & utility support for three other folks today & could use help meeting this fourth ask.

Thank you all 🖤

I just think AI is so exciting bc it's a machine that you can get wrong answers from, that yields environmental devastation, and is being forced on all of us

One time our icebreaker at work was “which horror movie villain do you think you could defeat?” and I said Pennywise because she becomes your greatest fear and I’m afraid of everything so guess who’s going to get tired first. Not me.

FR, I have a mental illness and every time something spooky has happened to me I’ve been like “well this is annoying!” Like the time my medication kept me from sleeping properly until I started to see the ghost spiders. Just let me sleep, bro. I don’t have the energy for ghost spiders at this time.

but also EVENTUALLY it will occur to someone other than me that a genuinely mentally ill person, with a lot of experience dismissing their own intrusive thoughts/ delusions/ hallucinations, would make a GREAT horror protagonist.

To become dependent on ChapGPT is to evacuate yourself from your own life.

YIKES, no thanks. I’m gonna be alive inside every damn thing I do, even and especially the ish I don’t wanna do.

Truly this is the “hold my beer” level of S-tier P&P retellings — took about three pages to get me from the classic “ugh, that horrible little Collins man” to “I would lay down my life for him”

I joke, I kid, but I do notice the difference when the math chapter relies more on memorization. My memory got thrashed by early trauma so while I *can* adjust for not being able to memorize stuff by instead using My Systems, it doesn’t feel as exciting as when I can figure stuff out by myself.

pre-orders are really important so you should definitely do it now because gift giving season is coming and books are always the perfect present and you should support living Black authors.

The adultification of Black kids is the criminalization of Black kids, they see Black babies as full grown threats to justify coming down on them hard.

This was the first time I had to say “I think YOU think that’s the correct answer” to two of the problems so that makes me sad. Boo, exponents. Boo.

FRACTIONS WITH NEGATIVE EXPONENTS
A negative exponent in the numerator of a fraction becomes a positive exponent when we use its reciprocal.
The new exponent is now positive.
EXAMPLE: Simplify the expression
Rewrite the negative exponent into a positive exponent.
A negative exponent in the denominator becomes a positive exponent when moved to the numerator.

A lot of people are, very reasonably, thinking of acquiring/learning about guns right now. Without trying to discourage that, please consider asking yourself some of these questions first:

Do I have and know how to use naloxone? A tourniquet? A chest seal? Do I know how and when to use an EpiPen?

We don't have a mask rule because we don't understand the science.

We have a mask rule because we DO understand the growing body of evidence that covid can affect heart, brain, and more.

We have this rule because one of us already has life-changing #LongCovid and doesn't want you to experience it.

No.

Our mask requirement is not "virtue signalling".

It's protecting a) the cancer patient and b) the child who is still too small to wear a mask.

And also--and I can't emphasize this strongly enough--you.

I keep thinking of this line about seat belts that was in an online drivers safety course I had to take in undergrad to get points cleared off my license:

"Sure, seat belts might wrinkle your clothes a bit, but imagine what blood will do to them."
