I've even gone out of my way this summer to get photos with people looking into engine bays or interiors, it shows life at carshows instead of just being sterile ad-copy shots.

Except the one guy at a show this summer who thought I was taking a picture of his ass while he polished his wheels... He immediately calmed down when I said "Your purple wheel rag matches your paint, I had a good candid shot" and then popped his hood to show me the engine.

I'll ask car owners to move a chair if they're actively sitting directly in front of their car, but lmao imagine asking to take the photo. If anyone's asking anything it's usually the car owner asking the photographer to look at some specific detail they like!

The downriver view at Englishman River Falls is super iconic, also worth doing the short hike to the lower falls, where a huge boulder is wedged between the canyon sides with the river flowing underneath. Winter high flow turns it into a waterfall, but I've only shot it in summer/autumn.

Up until the very end (2017!) HMV Canada had Soul, Hiphop, R&B, etc all together in a section labeled "Urban". Yikes! I still shopped there a ton because it was also the only place where I could get UK electronic music releases special-ordered without having to pay international shipping rates.

I would argue that sometimes we do neither. We make for the sake of making because making is inherently gratifying, whether or not there is an audience or market for the product. How many of us have volume upon volume of negatives or prints that we made and love that never see the light of day?

They're a super useful tool, but so is a power drill, and I've seen people break fingers from not understanding that they're doing with them.

Yeah, the first couple nice days every spring I see retirees who haven't ridden in decades on brand-new ebikes. Great, except for the ones who don't realize they have the reflexes of a 75 year old on a bike that can casually go 30km/h on a MUP and stack it on the first shady wet corner.
