So there's this Vietnamese logger named Ho Khanh. One day he's out searching for agarwood (aka eaglewood aka Wood of the Gods), a fragrant, resinous wood used in incense & perfume.

Ho Khanh is out in the jungle and finds what seems to be an entrance into an undiscovered cave.

Most octopuses live on the sea floor, but the Football Octopus (Ocythoe tuberculata) is one of the few octopus species that lives in the open ocean.

The females of this species have a gas filled swim bladder, which is common for fish but unique among octopuses.

I inadvertently hand-fed a couple of pigeons the other day... long story, but anyway, I had peanuts for the taking, and they met with approval. One pigeon landed on my hand, the other perched on my shoulder. I had no idea their feet were soft and warm underneath! A genuinely lovely experience.

Cellular doodles on an out of date diary page. Six colourful imaginary cells, each with a slightly different shape, a nucleus and some intracellular compartments have been drawn using the rules given in the post. They're drawn in ink in black, grey, olive green, red, and blue.

Another cellular doodle like the previous pic but this time it's one big cell taking up a whole page. It has 7 pseudopodia, a double lobed nucleus, 5 stripey internal compartments, and lots of little proteins sticking out of its membrane.

Uses a D6 to decide cell shape & contents:

- number of 'arms'/pseudopodia

- how many lobes the nucleus has

- no. of internal compartments/imaginary organelles

- smooth or fuzzy membrane (odd/even)

- spots or stripes in compartments.

Tawny owl

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵
