Nature lover, bibliomaniac, worrier. Yes, those are some of my bookshelves. I am still not an Algerian news network. Maybe I should have picked a different user name this time. Banner pic: tightly packed paperback fiction. Profile pic: egret.

09.10.2025 14:11 β π 67 π 9 π¬ 0 π 2So there's this Vietnamese logger named Ho Khanh. One day he's out searching for agarwood (aka eaglewood aka Wood of the Gods), a fragrant, resinous wood used in incense & perfume.
Ho Khanh is out in the jungle and finds what seems to be an entrance into an undiscovered cave.
A female football octopus (Ocythoe tuberculata) floating just below the surface of the water. The top of the octopus's mantle is breaking the surface. The camera is looking into its round eyes. The mantle is an ellipsoid shape and is covered in a bunch of bumps, which are larger towards the bottom. The octopus is a reddish/pink colour on the top, and white on the bottom. The water is greenish.
A blackwater photograph of a football octopus (Ocythoe tuberculata) living inside a salp. The octopus has 4 thin arms stretching backwards, and the arms are covered in two rows of suckers. The octopus's head and mantle form a blog that a iridescent white colour but it is is covered in orange chromatophores. It has a round orange eye. The salp is blue, translucent gelatinous, tub shaped blob. There is small purplish thing side and two black things sticking out the left side. The octopus is at the left end.
A close up of football octopus (Ocythoe tuberculata) in a small aquarium with a Twin-sailed Salp (Thetys vagina) that is on the right edge of the image. It is a temporary exhibit in the Yogyo Aquarium in Shizuoka, Japan. The octopus is white with lots of red and orangish red chromatophores. Three of its arms are extending back and around its mantle.
A tiny football octopus (Ocythoe tuberculata) in black water. It is not clear if it is a juvenile or a dwarf male. The octopus has translucent flesh and red chromatophores, with some iridescence on its eye and two arms. The arms are extending out it in different wavy patterns
Most octopuses live on the sea floor, but the Football Octopus (Ocythoe tuberculata) is one of the few octopus species that lives in the open ocean.
The females of this species have a gas filled swim bladder, which is common for fish but unique among octopuses.

I am increasingly convinced that the feeling of being unable to focus, procrastinating and being addicted to scrolling are often actually the feeling of being desperate to learn something new and difficult. To let your brain chew solid food.

A larger and tidier grid pattern, using the same principles as the first one. It's an 11 by 11 grid with each cell containing nested circles in colourful ink. There are smaller circles at the vertices that are connected by thin black lines. There are tiny black Morse code letters drawn in the circ lol es as described in the post.

Repetitive pattern doodle in the out of date diary today. Just diagonal lines of repeating shapes & lines.
This kinda doodle also looks nice when you scale it up & make it neat.
The shapes in these big drawing contain tiny Morse code letters that spell 'repetition is relaxing'. I love drawing CW.
Calling English a 'rip-off degree' is one of the most blatant exhibitions of personal barbarism I've ever seen. You've demonstrated nothing but the poverty of your own mind.

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

A paean to privatised public transport.
Today I had to go from Stockport to Salisbury. So I bought a ticket
Stockport > Bristol > Salisbury
The drive to Stockport should have taken 35 minutes. Satnav said it would take 2 hours, and I'd miss my train.
So I went to Macclesfield, where I found...
I will never not repost this

Six colourful imaginary cells, each with a slightly different shape, a nucleus and some intracellular compartments have been drawn using the rules given in the post. They're drawn in ink in black, grey, olive green, red, and blue.
Another cellular doodle like the previous pic but this time it's one big cell taking up a whole page. It has 7 pseudopodia, a double lobed nucleus, 5 stripey internal compartments, and lots of little proteins sticking out of its membrane.
Cell doodle games from my out of date diary the past week.
Uses a D6 to decide cell shape & contents:
- number of 'arms'/pseudopodia
- how many lobes the nucleus has
- no. of internal compartments/imaginary organelles
- smooth or fuzzy membrane (odd/even)
- spots or stripes in compartments.
Sunflower Field Abstract is a painting in portrait format painted with watercolors and ink by the artist Karen Kaspar. It shows a field with many yellow blossoming sunflowers under a dark indigo blue cloudy sky. A summer thunderstorm is approaching and rain is on the horizon. The dark sky makes the yellow sunflowers glow.
