Rep. James Talarico On Confronting Christian Nationalism, And Strange Days In The Texas Legislature

Given the regime doesn't want people to see this, we have to spread it far and wide. Hopefully Evangelical Christians will heed what Talarico has to say.

Our national trauma By Ande Jacobson Everyone experiences trauma of one sort or another during their lifetime, often more than once. For some, it’s part of the normal cycle of life such as losing an elderly grandparen…

Listening to @hcrichardson.bsky.social and @jbf1755.bsky.social this morning, they talked about how the national trauma we are all experiencing is negatively affecting the children. I wrote about that at the beginning of February, as it struck me as well.

Religion is a very dangerous tool for those who wield it. It stops critical thinking replacing it instead with dogma and magical thinking.

The system certainly does need work, but in order for democracy to work we also need an engaged and educated (or at least knowledgeable) electorate. We have far too many voters who tune out and either don't vote at all or lack the skills and/or the will to look beyond the rhetoric/propaganda.

Unfortunately, I hit a paywall. But yes, when they come for any group, all are in danger. We cannot let this continue.

Nice idea to mess with some rankings and put a crimp in the propaganda.

Good grief. Talk about a useless Senator.

I guess the GOP won't step up until they are individually, personally attacked by the rogue government agencies that seem to think it's acceptable to execute Americans at will. Concerned? Sheesh.

On this one, I agree with Robert Reich's suggestions. They need to reject the DHS appropriations bill unless the following provisions are added:

ICE agents must be unarmed.

ICE agents must be subject to all civil and criminal laws if they injure anybody.

Agents can't hide their identity.

16.01.2026 22:38 — 👍 0    🔁 1    💬 1    📌 0

This.

We’ve long left the point when ICE is focused on immigration.

It’s a fear patrol, deployed against people—all people—to keep us afraid and in line.

Done.

Terrifying and prescient. We are so deeply in this now, and the true tragedy is that none of it had to happen. Why can't people learn from history and stop repeating the absolute worst of it?

Terrifying and prescient. We are deeply in this now. To stop it will cost lives. Not doing so will ensure even more lives are lost along with all freedom.

It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

Right, we'd need super majorities across the board. But we can still do far better than where we are now. As for repairing our international standing, not sure that will ever happen, or if it does, it won't be for generations, but we still have to try. Together.

We've been a rogue state for a while, but this latest travesty certainly cemented that with the rest of the world. We've got a lot of work to do, although other nations should not trust the US again unless we can put sufficient guardrails in place to prevent another similar regime to take hold.

2025 is finally ending By Ande Jacobson For the last several years, I’ve given up sending a holiday letter out or posting one on social media or my website talking about what I’d done over the course of the year. Instead…

Some thoughts about 2025. This is one year I'm very glad to see end.

This regime is too stupid to realize that making the public sicker puts the leaders at risk too. Communicable diseases don't care how much money you have or what your position is in society. They only seek out warm bodies to infect. Vaccines save lives, so let's make it more dangerous for all. Ugh!

Understanding how to deal with extremism and intolerance By Ande Jacobson For several years now Teri Kanefield has been trying to help people understand how we got to where we are in the U.S. and the world, and more importantly, what we can do about it. …

Teri Kanefield has given us a gift, her new book - Why Intolerance and Extremism Happen. It's free! It's well-worth reading. It's only about 100 pages, and it really focuses what Teri's been explaining for years.

Not just him. The GOP has been attacking education for over 40 years ever since Reagan flipped the scales to gut public funding for public education. The GOP wants an uneducated, uninformed public because they are easier to dupe, and Project 2025 gives them the plan to seal education's coffin.

27.11.2025 22:11 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Exactly. Universities were the hallmark of exploration, free speech, etc. A few still are, but the number of schools that have caved to pressure from the regime in the name of funding is crushing. If the regime can dictate what universities can study, say, and teach, education is lost.

That was something that Kamala Harris has commented on in her new book and in interviews - the unexpected amount of capitulation we're seeing from so many different sectors. The media had already shown its hand in its coverage of Trump over the years, but losing universities this way is a travesty.

Just caught the replay. I do miss you on Mastodon when I pop in, but I know to find you here doing your thing helping us all get through the chaos. Thank you! It was really nice to hear you on Nicole's show. Someday, I'd love to have an actual conversation with you if we could ever coordinate that.

I've lost count of how many things in a normal world would have DQ'd him so many times over. I so yearn for a normal world again, but there is hope. He's struggling. The country as a whole is tired of this horrid reality TV show regime. It will end.

I just finished reading Kamala Harris' new book, 107 Days. It's well worth a read. What she accomplished despite the disappointing result of her campaign is important as is her message that all is not lost. Together we can move forward and rebuild our country.
