10.10.2025 12:01 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Finished by look at an absolute classic Maths Challenge question that is great for talking about patterns and generalizing - so fun!
4/4
Then taking a look at trailing digits... 3/4
10.10.2025 11:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Then looked at some simpler examples to build up to the Maths Challenge question... 2/4
10.10.2025 11:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Questions involving powers and factorials where students need to group things into odds and evens
Looked at Factorials with Year 10 in #MathsToday
Started off looking at odds and evens based on the Maths Challenge question in the bottom right.
I always love using Maths Challenge questions as a starting point for planning - this one was particularly fun π§΅1/4
Did this with my year 13s in #Alevelmaths as a gentle warm up.
Getting them to guess what f(x) and g(x) was and to find each area depending on their functions was less gentle! #Mathstoday
Worksheet involving circle theorems and trigonometry
Made this Circle Theorems and Trigonometry worksheet inspired by interwoven maths @nathanday.bsky.social in #Mathstoday

Haven't posted to my website much recently but just made a quick post collating together stuff I've posted here over the past few months

Parametric Equations with #AlevelMaths in #MathsToday
Continuing to try and use Variation Theory to zoom in on possible misconceptions!
Excited to be running my first session at #Mathsconf39 with @seethelanes.bsky.social
Talking about Variation Theory in #Alevelmaths and how fun it as a guide for writing series of questions!
Here is a set I wrote in #MathsToday for my stats Y12s!

I made a very silly series of videos along these lines a while ago. Very fun very niche!

Not much laughter for my "Serpendicular" joke unfortunately... #MathsToday
Derivative of arcsinx
Differentiating inverse trig functions in #MathsToday
Some discussion upon reaching the answer of 1 about whether there was in fact an easier way of doing this question...
#AlevelMaths
Yup! Starting by sketching graphs (also great excuse to use the sliders on desmos) and then making predictions from question to question, leading to simultaneous equations and using the discriminant π
05.09.2025 06:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Series of questions where students need to find intersections
Always like thinking about how to get students to do something tricky by slowly building up the skill - I hadn't seen many "easier" finding intersections questions so enjoyed making my own! #MathsToday #ALevelMaths
04.09.2025 17:40 β π 23 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0Back to school thinking of a fun little starter for Year 13s after a summer off... #ALevelMaths #MathsToday
01.09.2025 15:53 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I definitely find some students do that but I try to use some examples where that is PARTICULARLY horrible and Quotient is much easier to try and nudge them
22.07.2025 08:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Introducing Quotient rule with #AlevelMaths in #Mathstoday. Had to do a lot of set up differentiating using function notation beforehand!
14.07.2025 20:19 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Oo one of my year 10s managed to do it! What a legend!
08.07.2025 14:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Have just spent the last forty minutes trying to do the first one of these to no success π if anyone does it PLEASE post a solution haha
08.07.2025 08:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sometimes but to be honest we usually just chat about the questions as a team
05.07.2025 08:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah has worked well when we have done it! Has usually been additional to going through a few key questions. We also went through phases of confidence marking and then getting kids to focus on the "highest confidence marked questions" that they got wrong which was interesting!
03.07.2025 06:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We have tried doing it as a big Spot The Mistake exercise:
- Teachers do the test and answer each question wrong (hopefully using a misconception)
- we then photocopy that Teacher answered misconception paper
- students work in pairs to find all the mistakes (we did it as a competition!)
Doing some TMUA prep in #Mathstoday and came up with this question to get my #AlevelMaths students thinking about sketching graphs/integration questions
01.07.2025 20:35 β π 23 π 3 π¬ 4 π 0Thankfully not! Although I got a lot of "... Is that one just zero..."
30.06.2025 17:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haha some of them did that one by doing cos(30-30)=cos(0)=1...
30.06.2025 15:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Working with Double Angle formulae with Y12 in #AlevelMaths #MathsToday
Can you guess which one they found the hardest?
Doing some thinking about Integration in gain time for #Alevelmaths. Having fun with reciprocals! #Mathstoday
26.06.2025 17:44 β π 32 π 9 π¬ 1 π 0Think this one works! Really fun #x^2-7x+10 challenge @ljohns6.bsky.social
