I had a critique with the university’s writer-in-residence today who had planned to spend a chunk of time dissuading me from using AI for illustrations because apparently SO MANY ASPIRING PICTURE BOOK AUTHORS DO IT. Then she got to know me a bit better.🤪 #kidlitchat

I grew up in Orem at the mouth of the canyon and amongst the apple orchards. It was all so normal I didn’t realize how amazing it was. Apple orchards have a scent. #kidlitchat

OK. When you draw, light, shadow, colour, light source, light hardness, bounce light, rim light, sunrise, twilight, darkness, type of light, etc. are always in the forefront of your mind. You can’t escape it. When you write, you have to be more conscious to invite it all into the story. #kidlitchat

I think when it is set against orange and yellow leaves it intensifies the effect. #kidlitchat
