I second (third, fourth?) Mysterium & Castle Panic. Both are great. Mysterium is beautiful & moody. Castle Panic is fast-paced and intense. Dead of Winter is also a great coop game about zombies.

My kids' elementary school used to have a book-themed costume parade, where all the kids marched around dressed up as book characters. So fun. Mostly kids wore their normal costumes and found a book to match (like a spiderman book, etc.) but some people did get really creative. #kidlitchat

I'm not sure if this one counts as a Halloween book (although it has a Halloween part) but it's also super charming. :) #kidlitchat

It's hard for me to appreciate Reese's that I know about Trader Joy's dark chocolate peanut butter cups... We have like three containers in the house right now. 😬 #kidlitchat

It's release week for my debut middle grade graphic novel, Kindred Dragons, published by Abrams Books! Yay!!!

Think of your story like an egg: the shell is the plot, and the gooey insides are the emotional core.

If you only have plot, your story will be hollow and have no substance.

If you only focus on the emotional core, you'll have a delicious mess with no structure.

I try to keep in mind that there will always be a gap between the ideal art I'd like to create and what I actually create, and to make peace with that. It's probably also a good thing: that feeling motivates me to keep learning & improving.

So true.

One of my main motivations for for teaching classes at my local writers convention is because it forces me out of my comfort zone & it also gets easier and less stressful every time I do it.

The nicest thing about the book event at Honey Locust Farms last weekend is that if any conversation got too awkward, I could Homer Simpson myself into the foliage.

if i have any advice to aspiring comic artists, it's that unless you actively really enjoy the process of drawing detailed backgrounds, you will save yourself a lot of time and energy developing a style that does not require you to always include them
