Cuomo congratulates Mamdani: "Tonight is his night. He deserved it. He won."

Hasn't fully conceded, will wait for RCV count and weigh an independent run, but beginning to admit that Mamdani will be the nominee.

Sad that my #1 pick Lander unsurprisingly fell short, but he deserves lots of credit for whatโ€™s happening here.

I was (still am) bullish on ZM winning the primary, but I didnโ€™t think he had a snowballโ€™s chance in hell of coming out on top on the first ballot. Wow.

lol my mother was losing her mind telling me that a trump voter she knows sent her a screenshot of some article talking about federal agencies banning celebrations of mlk day, pride month, etc. like โ€œthis is crazy!!! can you believe this shit?โ€, and my mom had to very calmly be like โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆyeahโ€

every single Republican in Congress is a massive cuck, never seen anything like this. we are in a constitutional crisis because these people are far more pathetic than the founding fathers could have ever imagined

Since JD Vance just converted to Catholicism 5 minutes ago, he might not know this: the Pope authoring a letter where he goes out of his way to correct you, specifically, is considered "bad" in the Catholic tradition

We call upon our elected representatives to stand with us and to insist upon adherence to the rule of law and the legal processes and procedures that ensure orderly change. The administration cannot choose which law it will follow or ignore. These are not partisan or political issues. These are rule of law and process issues. We cannot afford to remain silent. We must stand up for the values we hold dear. The ABA will do its part and act to protect the rule of law.

We urge every attorney to join us and insist that our government, a government of the people, follow the law. It is part of the oath we took when we became lawyers. Whatever your political party or your views, change must be made in the right way. Americans expect no less.

The American Bar Association has just called upon every attorney, regardless of their political views, to join them & stand up for the rule of law & at minimum insist that our government "follow the law."

Every lawyer has an ethical responsibility to do so.

Semi-interesting discovery from tonightโ€™s genealogy deep dive: I have ties to two U.S. Ambassadors to Norway who served nearly consecutively. (Margaret Tibbetts was my dadโ€™s grandfatherโ€™s cousin; Thomas Byrne was my momโ€™s step-grandfatherโ€™s cousin.) No family connection to Norway otherwise. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

The core selling point of Trumpism is that other people's suffering will be your gain. So when something awful happens--a plane crash, a mass shooting, you name it--they cannot and will not offer solutions. All they will offer is more suffering.

I adore Raskin, and this is in no way meant to be a criticism of him, but it is extremely funny that the media is trying to frame his campaign against Nadler as an example of the youngโ€™uns taking on the old guard, when the youngโ€™un in question is about to turn 62.

No one knows the future - both what Trump will actually do, and what the effects will be - but it truly was the case that that Trumpโ€™s *explicit campaign promises* were to basically destroy the recovery.

Obviously there are bigger structural forces at play but the haste with which some lefties are trying to absolve these people is kinda gross

The Federal Advisory Committee Act was enacted in 1972 to ensure that advice by the various advisory committees formed over the years is objective and accessible to the public. The Act formalized a process for establishing, operating, overseeing, and terminating these advisory bodies and created the Committee Management Secretariat to monitor compliance with the Act.

In 1976, Executive Order 12024 delegated to the administrator of GSA all responsibilities of the president for implementing the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). Secretariat operations are directed at reporting to the president and Congress on the activities of at least 1000 federal advisory committees. Samples of documents and forms used by the Secretariat and its clients can be found in the โ€œAdvice and Guidanceโ€ pages.

Executive orders and congressional revisions have further refined the extension and the application of the Act in 1993, 1997, and 1998, and the extent and nature of the Secretariatโ€™s reporting of the activities of the committees. The legal history is easy to follow in the โ€œLegislation and Regulationโ€ pages.

My plea to reporters is to not call it the Department of Government Efficiency. It is not a Department. It is almost certainly going to a Federal Advisory Committee, and it is very important that reporters accurately convey that Vivek and Elon are working on an advisory committee.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is itโ€™s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isnโ€™t denial, itโ€™s how we will survive
