This at a 12-month running mean of +1.54ΒΊC (using the ERA5 dataset Aug 2024 - Jul 2025)

Every 0.1ΒΊC from here on in is going to make these events more intense.

Ensuring that people can stay cool and the power stays on in this area should be a high priority if it is not already!

"Climate-based conscientious objection" as @ggrimalda.bsky.social likes to call it, is making people make some radical choices.

Case in point former pilot George Hibberd.

It's also great to hear these individuals tell their stories!

There are many places where people think they will be immune to what is coming.

That is truly terrifying.

If you were to count non-stop (without sleep or breaks) at about one count per second, counting to 3.6 billion would take 3.6 billion seconds, ie. around 114 years!

Future climate change is projected to increase the severity of impacts across natural and human systems and will increase regional differences

Future climate change is projected to increase the severity of impacts across natural and human systems and will increase regional differences Examples of impacts without additional adaptation

Given the global lack of urgency and political will to radically curb emissions (2025 emissions are projected to rise by 0.8% - see bsky.app/profile/gle... - when they are meant to be *falling* by 5.5% per year to attempt staying below 2ΒΊC) prudent risk management requires studying this map!

Calling for support after destruction of over 100 structures in fires PLETTENBERG BAY AND SEDGEFIELD NEWS - More...

This happened last night just east and west of where we are.

We have had a couple of unseasonably hot days/nights over the last while ahead of cold fronts passing through.

When a fire starts in an informal settlement the results can be catastrophic. 100 homes lost, 600 individuals displaced. 😒

πŸ”₯Wildfires are growing more frequent and intense, fuelled by climate change and extreme weather. How do we measure their true impact? With near real-time data, CAMS tracks wildfire emissions, while C3S provides a range of fire-related datasets.

They are talking about parametric insurance here.

America CAN'T Keep Up with China’s High-Speed Revolution!
America CAN'T Keep Up with China’s High-Speed Revolution! In this video, I'm discussing why the U.S. struggles to keep up with China's infrastructure development. China has decades of experience constructing cutting-edge metro systems and an extensive high speed rail network, and the U.S. just does America CAN'T Keep Up with China’s High-Speed Revolution!

Reuters Aug 1, 2025: β€œ The U.S. government said on Friday it canceled an environmental review of a long-delayed proposed high-speed rail project between Washington and Baltimore, and scrapped $26 million in grants, effectively ending the project.”

Graph showing: Monthly Indian coal statistics

In 6 of 7 months this year, Coal India's production has been lower than the same months of last year. This is because of large stocks of coal both at mines and power stations, as power demand was lower than normal with the early monsoon and renewables are growing.
