One obvious way to compensate for a low birth rate is migration, unless you use "the West" as code for "White", which Elon absolutely does.

Every time I read one of his posts, I'm amazed that anyone still thinks Musk is some super-smart visionary. He's just a dull, weird racist LARPing Tony Stark.

In a first, renewables generate more power than coal globally Solar and wind power aren’t just keeping up with global electricity demand anymore – they’re pulling ahead. According to a new analysis from energy think tank Ember, solar and wind combined outpaced global electricity demand growth in the first half of 2025. That shift led to a drop in both coal and gas generation compared to the same period last year. For the first time ever, renewables generated more power than coal globally. more…

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

…trophy taking, failure to take prisoners, and of course the fire bombing of Tokyo and the use of nukes - a weapon not only totally indiscriminate but also capable of causing generational harms from radiation. “Total war,” though, means no restraint at all, and that’s not accurate about U.S. in WWII

WWII doesn’t count as “total war,” writ large, because we for the most part accepted surrenders, treated POWs well, and recognized civilian immunity (which didn’t protect them from dying in profound numbers as “collateral damage.” We crossed the most lines in the Pacific theater, including some…

Hard agree. And I’ve often challenged audiences - including military audiences - to show me the war that the U.S. lost because we were too ethical/restrained. On the other hand, failing to show restraint absolutely has hurt us strategically, and in many other ways.

I don't support government officials spraying nonviolent citizens in the face at point blank range with pepper spray foggers. It is a gross violation of their First Amendment rights to speech and protest, and their Fourth Amendment rights against excessive force.

Image shows a bagged Halloween costume worn by a female model, meant to portray the cartoon character Lord Farquaad from the movie Shrek. It’s a short red dress, showing lots of leg, worn with high black heeled boots, a short cape, and a red hat. The model is trying to make a “sexy” expression

Another one begs the “Who decided this needed to exist?” question - a sexy woman’s version of Lord Farquaad from Shrek… ?

Hubby and I had fun perusing the aisles of Spirit Halloween. As usual, some of the things they try to make “sexy” for costumes are hilarious. One potential winner - Sexy Cookie Monster
