The most powerful force in American politics today is antiestablishment rage at a system that’s rigged against most people.

Democrats should ignore the carping of corporate and Wall Street Democrats and embrace Mamdani and other young progressives as the future of the party.

The only way the media can be held accountable for its Republican bias is if Democratic elected officials start telling people to unsubscribe and stop watching and give their attention and money to, well, fair and balanced outlets, which today means “left leaning”.

Thinking right now about that period 14 months ago when lefties were portraying Joe Biden as something akin to a fascist dictator. I took a lot of heat for saying people were being ridiculous and that those attacks on Biden would age extremely poorly if Trump won. And now here we are.

An incumbent senator -- one who's been resisting the president's main legislative priority so much that the president threatened to get revenge on him -- just announced he'd retire rather than buckle under.

Seems like a big story, but it doesn't have "Gaza magic word bingo" in it, so who knows?

Also the entire news media. There's really not that many Democrats on the anti-Mamdani beat but curiously virtually all of them are getting prime slots on cable news shows as if they speak for all Democrats. It makes you think!

Talked to so many people who were at the first protests of their lives today. Ex-Republicans, introverts, 90-year-olds and 3-year-olds. This was at an intersection in a 60,000 person town. Haven’t felt hope like this in my life.

It is difficult to imagine any circumstances in which the assassination of one democratic lawmaker and the attempted assassination of another is not fascist violence, calculated to suppress political resistance to a fascist project. At this point I am not going to try.

The news isn’t being clear about this but to people hearing about these Minnesota shootings: Melissa Hortman is the Dem leader in the Minnesota House and was Speaker of the House 2019-2025. She’s probably the most influential state-level Democrat barring the governor.

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.
