If you're using AI to write essays, eulogies, a text to your wife, I do think less of you as a person. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.

Totally onboard with this framing. As Van Jackson and others have argued - the US is both a hegemon and a preeminent revisionist power .. just one ruled by imbeciles lashing out at enemies they’ve conjured up in group chats. If you assume US exceptionalism then obv this is hard to believe.

So the deal is done (and Mark can continue to wear his shirt): the US will impose a 15% US baseline tariff, 232 on steel and aluminum, the EU commits to invest and buy energy and military stuff from the US. What does it all mean?

The shift from pensions to 401ks played a big role in fueling Americans' hesitance to tax big wealth. Because now, even Americans who have only a tiny retirement account feel invested in the success of an institution that overwhelmingly benefits those much wealthier than them.

This stuff is all awful, but far & away the most important capitulation to date is the total Article I failure/crisis. Congress has done nothing as a runaway Mad King has stolen its power of the purse & closed down entire portions of the government it created by law. All of 👇 is secondary to that.

The Trumpists didn’t depart from a previously stable democratic consensus. They represent the radical wing of a rightwing coalition that was never on board with egalitarian principles and democratic pluralism to begin with.
