Precisely. It is as I drew it. I think if you follow the line of the back from head to tail it should be fairly clear. The rear leg is anatomically correct, but I get that the angle might be causing the issue with how it is perceived.

You are seeing the back leg, tail, and lower body in the foreground. The smilodon is leaning and the back curves. It's a simple, forced perspective of the animal.

Thanks for the clarification. I woodburned the piece originally, having sketched it lightly. The spots may be what's throwing you off.
