Let me be clear. As someone who has been professionally involved with the biodefense / biosecurity sector for nearly 20 years, and has worked on biological risk analysis for Covid-19 since early 2020, reducing one's risk of being infected is not health anxiety. It's just smart.

This is a mistake. The current political situation in the US means that migrant farm workers are very unlikely to engage with any arm of the federal government. It is a huge risk to deprioritise H5N1.

It further suggests that governments should be taking steps to curb the spread of COVID since the disease risks creating significant, costly burdens in terms of chronic mental health problems and reduced (economic) productivity across populations.

It means that there is a risk to everyone who gets infected with COVID. You gamble with your neurological health every time you get infected. Given the high stakes (continuing neurological problems which can rob you of a social, professional or personal life)it makes sense to try to avoid infection.

I have seen 2 patients in clinic today whose (severe) Long Covid started with an infection in 2024. Both had experienced previous COVID infections. This really hasn’t gone away 😢
