Couple years into that a coworker noticed my aptitude for the regulatory side of the process and encouraged me to pursue that.
Fast forward and the same person is now at the FAA and says... don't you want to keep learning why we do what we do. Ta da now I know how much I don't know.

Graduated during the 2008 can't get an introductory job in anything much less my field. Did a lot of things to pay bills for a couple of years and applied to literally 100's of places. Was offered a job designing aircraft interiors if I'd move across the country. Sure, why not.

Started college as an architecture major... didn't like the subjectivity of feedback on the artistic aspects of assignments.
Switched to engineering and picked which one by reading the course requirements and going "those look the most doable...
Mechanical it is then"

There were no female airline pilots during Duffy's "golden age" because the men in aviation medicine (and it was all men) were so stupid they thought that having a period made you crash.

But hey, female passengers wore skirts so I guess that means it was all good.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

This is what I compare it to when others have brought it up.
It's not like you get to the end of an Agatha Christie and Miss Marple goes "welp, I'm just not sure who it could've been"

I do not want to β€œDo my own research.” I want to pay trained accredited experts to do the research, trained accredited experts to report on findings, and trained accredited experts to make policy based on them.

I am busy af with my own job, I don’t need to do eight zillion more.

Is not a bad time to point out that Australia just made it illegal to refuse remote work with out a legitimate reason. And a court has ruled that β€œface to face time is important to our office culture” is not legitimate. Nor is β€œproductity is higher when everyone is on the office”.

I agree with the thread & with Courtney & also want to add one thing:

When we talk about progressive & conservative areas, we're usually looking at election results, BUT: We don't actually know that we're a a half/half nation - we know only that we're a gerrymandered & voter suppressed nation.

I am fully in support of "Do you have a job where taxes are taken out?" = allowed to vote.
So if the minimum age to work is 14, then you are also allowed to vote.
Otherwise, it is literally taxation without representation.

An abandoned building by the beach where a window overlooks the sea. The water through the window resembles a painting, so someone has scrawled Free Rothko on the wall.

Everyone needs to stop worrying about β€œdisruptions” in air service and start caring about flight safety and how wrong it is to demand that people work unpaid & exhausted at one of the most stressful jobs in the world.

Politics continues to endanger ATC and it needs to stop. Now.

have y'all ever had communion bread that was just so...nasty? like I know we have to suffer as Christians, but do we really need to have whole wheat bread as the body of christ?
User hymnsofheresy:
My old church used Hawaiian bread. My standards are high.
User missweber:
Some old housemates of mine were Syrian orthodox. At their church different members of the church took turns baking the bread that would be consecrated for the Eucharist. This was all well and good until one woman baked raisin bread. This led to the memorable occasion of a rather flustered priest, who had not seen the bread until that moment, "This - except for the raisins - is the Body of Christ."

Hmm... it has been awhile so I had to go look. In the app when I tap Borrow it gives me the choice of 7, 14, or 21 days. To change the default though, I had to go to my state's e-library website

At my library 2 weeks is the default but you can go into the settings and change it to 3wks.
