Here's where to get help with food in southwestern Pennsylvania When SNAP benefits expire because of the federal government shutdown, hundreds of thousands of Western Pennsylvanians will struggle to afford food.

When SNAP runs out on Nov. 1st, hundreds of thousands of people in Pittsburgh and across SWPA will struggle to afford food. I compiled (with the help of community members) a non-exhaustive list of where people can find help, including sites in Pittsburgh & outer counties.

Please spread this.

Everyone is sharing their stories about their distant relatives/family friends who held familial titles. Trumbull County had their own version of Tallulah Bankhead, and she was my Nana Marian. No blood relation, just the demand for children to perceive her as an enlightened matriarch. It worked.

how does donald trump keep breaking all these norms when all i'm doing is repeatedly suggesting he might do that with softball questions and then writing up the answers as if it's not a settled issue and attributing equal validity to his sundowning avarice and the written constitution

It’s important in all this to remember: official press conferences are a minuscule part of the job and exist to present one side and control questioning.

Much reporting, often the best reporting, happens without ever having to flash a press pass

There is a natural inclination, especially among Americans steeped in our culture of mass incarceration, to judge the propriety of a person’s punishment not based on what they’ve done, but on how deserving one believes they are of receiving justice. On its face, any 13-year-old kid that allegedly made threats and was found to be in possession of a knife should be afforded the rights of due process in the juvenile court system. But because this boy was born in another country, because he and his family were asylum-seekers (authorized to work legally in the US) and not American citizens, and regardless of any piece of his personal story or history that led him to this point, some believe he is not owed those same rights. This boyβ€”this childβ€” deserves to rot in a federal facility, they say, and to be dragged across state lines away from his home. And for some, his mere existence in this country is crime enough.
But it’s important to bust these myths. It’s crucial to remember, as so many speakers at the Everett City Council meeting reminded us, that all of our safety is intertwined. DHS and its many agencies are trying to turn neighbors against one another. But our neighbors are not our enemiesβ€”in fact, they are the ones most likely to protect us.

I support nonviolent action. It's literally what I do. But telling people that allowing themselves to be harmed to demonstrate the character of their enemy will be politically transformative denies the desensitized reality of the present.
