That's a fair question. Probably not? The SSDs in the frameworks are really fast as it is.
My main performance barrier is building, which can work in parallel in most cases, so in theory that should be wayyyy better on those PCs. It should actually be faster
But I'm scared

Maybe it's worth it? I'll be able to upgrade over time, too. Framework seems to be doing alright, so I think I can expect them to be around.
The other option I'm considering is the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 but I feel like I'd need to max it out to ensure it stays useful for long enough. So expensive

Yeah, and I really want to want it, but I'm worried the system won't feel as snappy or capable as I'm used to. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is better than my M1 Pro and M2 Max on paper, but I wonder if it'll transfer over to Linux and x86 favourably. Slower SSD, no unified memory, less vertical integration

Trying to find comparable hardware, let alone that's compatible with Linux, is a bit of a shit show
I'm keen to get off of the Apple ecosystem but damn, there are going to be some huge compromises. Comparable specs in benchmarks with a decent display looks to be in the $5k territory ๐ฑ

It's astounding how far Apple has come with their hardware in the last decade
You get used to it, but it's easy to forget that the premium you pay for the brand isn't just sleek hardware anymore. It's also insanely efficient and powerful performance due to unprecedented vertical integration

I understand Tim Apple is trying to do what's best for his company and shareholders. That's his job and obligation. I'm sure he has weighed his options extensively. I still think he made a shitty choice, regardless of if this works out well for Apple or not.

Jesus Christ. What a pathetic display. I emailed tcook@apple.com to say this ruins the Apple brand for me. Gifts of gold for rapists? Really?
I've been thinking about moving to Linux. I guess this is my sign. Sold my watch, gave away my phone, time to drop the MacBook as well

I get the heebs from this stuff, but the science is still very unclear due to how confounded all of the data is in nutrition, and how insanely mechanistically complex these compounds in our bodies are.
I think the gist of it is: humans aren't designed to load up on sweet stuff

A lot of the insights the author gains from the LLM are signals that a lot of people would lose in the noise.
Many people are not interested in scrutinizing their cognitive reflection, so to speak. They won't gain insights like this.
Perhaps this is clear in the writing. I felt that it wasn't

Having thought about this more:
It doesn't seem wise to say an LLM is useful as a therapist. I understand he's not saying the LLM is a therapist (he specifically says otherwise), but my concern is that the approval from a therapist, or positive affiliation in a therapy context, could confuse people

For what it's worth, as a programmer this is very relatable.
I don't want it to perform some superhuman or phenomenal function. It's a rubber duck that's remarkable articulate and great at pattern matching. This is extremely useful for tooling through your own ideas and logical misfires.

This kind of confidence is frightening given the context, and makes me doubt so much that he would have killed himself. I don't think there was a mode of his existence in which he could experience guilt, regardless of what he did.
