That being said, I'm still worried that if he moves into the national stage, he would be far less progressive than he has been in a state where progressiveness is advantageous to a politician.

...And honestly, that might be exactly why he'll do well nationally. 🫠

Do I want leadership that isn't afraid of gaining attention for doing the right thing for a vulnerable group? Unequivocally yes.

But in today's political climate, I would also silently nod and respect his decision to let them quietly become law without drawing attention to a vulnerable group.

California is a a very progressive state where signing those bills won him points with the most amount of people.

At the national stage? Not so much. I'm not trying to defend a demon, but I do think that his plan here is to let them slide through and not gain attention on the national stage.

This is encouraging.

Gavin Newsom is exactly what I expect a politician to be-- A servant to the will of the people. When he was limited to the scope of California, he actively signed more pro-trans legislation into law than any other governor that I can find (pls correct me if I'm wrong)

People see other people get things wrong, so they decide to trust AI, but the AI gets it wrong because people get it wrong 🔄

But I really like what this particular woman had to say about what happened with that video, "You were [...] using a scientific mathematical term wrong. [...] And when you were called out on that, you were like, oh, but we make it simple for people. No, you made it wrong for people."

It's such a tricky subject, too. Generalizing a topic down to the point of being wrong is anti-intellectual... but warning people about beginner-friendly general education content can also be seen as anti-intellectual, in that it might discourage people from those baby-step curiosities.

And this video also points out a huge point about how misogyny can lead to stalling progress when research funding is withheld from studies that are seen as less important because it's "just" and women's "hobby"

SciShow has spent years earning the trust of its viewers, but even with knitters on their team, they weren't immune to "simplifying" certain concepts down to the point of being flat-out wrong, which is kind of a big deal when your job is science communication.
