BREAKING: After more than two weeks in ICE detention, Santa Cruz County resident and lawful green card holder Cliona Ward has been released, according to @usrepjimmypanetta.bsky.social .

"She's afraid that she's going to get lost in the system," said Holladay, who spoke with her sister today. "That was the one thing she said to me: 'Please don't let me get lost.'"

Holladay said she and her family have now turned their attention to Seattle, where they hope to find an effective lawyer dealing with crimination cases. Meanwhile, Ward told her sister that her time in detention has been chaotic.

Irish consulate in SF is tracking this also.

At home, she cares for her chronically ill adult son as a state-hired in-home supportive services caretaker.

"She's a viable, valuable part of this community," her sister told me.

CA State Assembly reps and @usrepjimmypanetta.bsky.social are in comms with Holladay and linking to legal resources.

Ward's sister, Orla Holladay, said her sister was caught up in a painful cycle of addiction, but has worked hard to leave that past behind and has been 20 years sober.

Ward, who moved to the US at 12, teaches children soil management and conservation.

Customs told Ward to come back Monday with papers to verify her legal history, but she was detained again anyway. Ward's sister said authorities told her this was because the charges were expunged by state--not federal--authorities, necessitating a federal hearing.

Ward, according to her sister, was apprehended for 3 days in late March while traveling home from a trip to Ireland to visit her dying father.

Her sister tells me she was taken in because of 20-year-old drug possession charges that have since been expunged.

A Santa Cruz County resident of more than three decades and Irish-born green card holder was detained by USCBP Monday.

I'm told that the detainee, 54-year-old Cliona Ward, will be transported this afternoon to a ICE detention facility in Seattle where she'll await a May 7 hearing.

- 26,755 were via DMV
- 2,739 via mail
- 385 via military/overseas services
- 2,624 via USPS to change their address
- 7,696 via online.

And ...

Only 5,576 used in-person services.

Among the bill's requirements are:
- Proof of US citizens at time of voting registration. Crucially, names on this document must match with a proof of identity, such as a driver's license.
- All reg. and/or voting updates occur in-person.
- No mail-in, DMV reg., or address updates through USPS.
