This cannot happen with nationalised services, because they are not allowed to make a profit nor hold surplus. So the taxpayer burden is always at least £100bn.

So in our £100bn rail example, a profit of 8bn would be paid as both Corp tax AND dividend. Reducing the tax burden on citizens to 92bn. Eventually reaching zero in just over 12 years

State enterprises are allowed to make a profit and thya profit paid back to the government in the folr of BOTH Corp tax AND dividend.

For example, if the railway required a 100 bn of investment and made 8 billion a year, a nationalised system would need to find 100bn every year in tax, plus inflation.

Because they operate through state owned enterprises where shareholder value is returned to the only shareholder.

The state (ie the treasury or government). Putting money back into the kitty instead of having to rely on taxation.

But European and Gulf models have shown that this is not the case universally.

But why?

The assumption is always that nationalisation does it better. And out of those two processes and considering it as a whole system, that is true.

A crucial factor in determining which model economically is which derives the greatest value for citizens.

Classical political thought creates a false dichotomy between nationalisation and privatisation.

Economically, there is no such dichotomy.

Pure nationalisation is a mistake!
