We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing.

Not true AT ALL.

Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are.

The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour.

At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

Meredith has always been a G, but it's still exceptionally weird and very refreshing hearing from a tech exec who can see through all of this AI bullshit for what it is at its foundation: a backdoor surveillance tool.

And then when you tap into the evergrowing popularity of people using ChatGPT for emotional support and therapy, you’re surely going to get a more personalized, more frank conversation when data is added in there too. “We believe that understanding emotions is a force multiplier for AI, in terms of it being effective for you in the context of wearing glasses all day,” Steen commented. “If you want AI to be really effective for you, it’s critical that it understands how you’re feeling in real-time, in response to different things that are happening around you.” It sounds creepy on paper, and it kind of is when you think about it. But it’s certainly a gateway into real emotional honesty that you may not get by rationalizing with yourself in a journal app and possibly glazing over any cracks in your mental health when filling out that survey for the day.

Cannot be overstated that the dominant project for people boosting this tech is to convince users that they can’t trust their own senses and they should give their body over to the machine.

6. The policy does not just affect funding going forward. All existing NIH grants will have their indirect rates cut to 15% as of today, the date of issuance.

For a large university, this creates a sudden and catastrophic shortfall of hundreds of millions of dollars against already budgeted funds.

It took slightly longer than expected, but THE BAG IS COMPLETE.

I used the empty space at the end to put in some charts, because I love reading data. Turns out embroidering a pie chart is a faff, but I think it was worth it.
