Ironically, I wrote a review praising Mighty Joseph in Paper Thin Walls, my longtime colleague Christopher Weingarten's website with Getty Images. But the site went dark in 2009, so Below System Records probably doesn't know it exists. Luckily, I saved a PDF of it.

Today, I received a press release for a vinyl reissue of Mighty Joseph's underrated 2008 album, "Empire State." Its presale page on belowsystem.com falsely attributes some PR hype I reprinted on my old website, Plugonemag.com, to me.

Palantir doesn’t care about civil liberties. They just want one of their own running the program.

Replaying this for the first time in years (decades?), I’m struck by how much it’s inspired by the Fats Comet/Shango/Orange Krush/Bill Laswell era of rap production.

I’m ashamed to report that despite how tedious I find him in general, Westside Gunn’s latest album is kinda entertaining.

Cardi B Vows To Violently Attack Ice Spice In Shocking Alleged Audio In audio that leaked online recently, Cardi B allegedly promises that she's not Latto or Nicki Minaj, and will get physical with Ice Spice.

Sounds like a nice person. www.hotnewhiphop.com/949535-cardi...

I vaguely remember that one. It’s a clever way to expand the canon instead of forcing folks to choose between Lil B and LL.

The list is too short. If it was longer, some of these leftfield picks would make more contextual sense.

I'm trying to think of a good rock comp to Kurtis Blow – someone who only sold 50-100k albums but still had their stuff repressed. Maybe (spitballing here) Van Morrison or John Hiatt? Also, I wonder if a lack of major headline touring (other than KOOL/Fresh Fest-style packages) was a factor.

Young Thug Spills His Heavy Feelings All Over a Frustrating Comeback Album Young Thug's comeback album 'UY Scuti' is a frutrating listen

My review of Young Thug's latest: "Perhaps *UY Scuti* would be better if Thug realized what’s at stake. Or maybe the problem is that he *knows* his A-list status is in question, but he’s too broken by the experience of being incarcerated to properly address it." www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

What the Public Memory of Charlie Kirk Revealed

Kudos to Nikole Hannah-Jones for this. (Bouie’s op-ed, by comparison, felt constrained by its editors.) But it doesn’t absolve NYT’s lack of courage in the heat of the moment, when consent for Kirk’s rancid contribution to public discourse was being manufactured. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/m...

Sorry, still processing. But I can definitively say that Blood Orange's "Westerberg" is one of the most fey reworks of a classic alt-rock song ("Alex Chilton") I've heard.

Sir, you can go to the #Blackademics feed here and find Black intellectuals and experts on a number of subjects. As it’s convener I’m happy to help you find whomever you need.

The original post by The Editorial Board (who is not just a clown, but the whole damn circus):

It takes a lot of work these days to find Black intellectuals and given the central importance of Black thought in American politics, it should not be this hard.

An account calling itself The Editorial Board not being able to do basic searches on the site they post on, let alone the world wide web, is hilarious
