What is the bravery, maybe they will say no, but I should try first

What big changes do I hope to make after my PhD? What did you change?

I want to be braver about asking for help and having conversations with fellow academics. I was often too stressed to reach out for advice and support from the scholars I deeply respected. Too shy and too hard on myself.

I hope someday I get the opportunity to sit at your small round table to discuss 😁

How China can become a biotechnology superpower After decades of pioneering institutional change in Chinese research, neuroscientist Rao Yi explains why US hesitation might offer China an opportunity to catch up internationally.

Which biotech fields might China excel in by 2050? Seeds.

In Nature Comment, Chinese neurobiologist Rao Yi recently remarked: "If allowed to speculate, I would predict that Chinese biotech will take off in agriculture, with new kinds of seed".

I am very interested in this position😁

I argue that the seed industry is a great example of how modern technology (biotechnology) deeply influences agriculture and rural development. It is also connected to many theoretical questions, such as regional and global innovation networks, global value chains, and technological sovereignty.

Do you know any who is an expert on this topic? I would like to read more articles from them. Or anyone will be interested in this topic?

Have you been surprised by many innovation studies in economic geography that focus on industry technology and urban areas, but only a few on agricultural technology and rural areas? I understand that economic growth is largely driven by industrialization, but I also see many real people are farmers

Do you have any good references for combining social network analysis and interviews? Or do you think who is the expert in this approach? I would love to get your any suggestions

How can I ensure that their results truly come from real fieldwork? I love qualitative studies, but how can I be certain that the authors' findings are objectively drawn from field research, such as interviews?

As your study focuses on the nanotechnology network, our study aims to focus on the vegetable seed industry. I am so happy to get your response. Hope I can keep in contact with you😁

We want to focus on a case study and combine network analysis and interviews. We had a very interesting study case in China which is an agricultural cluster. So it is at a geographical peripheral region but at a national business network core.

Hi Prof. Giuseppe, Thanks for sharing. I’m very interested in your work and have actually read some of it prior to asking my question. My idea is to apply multiplex social networks to explore how different networks influence the development of new industrial paths in peripheral regions😁

Great idea! I also think about capital ownership and power, especially in my study case in China as some firms share ownership with the government

Is it a good idea to apply social network analysis to study new regional industrial paths? I found there are many studies emphasize networks and knowledge are important for new path development, but limited quantitative studies on this topic

How can I access more opportunities to discuss with experts? Academic conferences and schools are so expensive, but meaningful discussions are very important for PhD students.
