It depends if evolve our doctrine, OpCon & force structures to actually make the most of the new tech - drones included - and the wider possibilities of AI. Military effectiveness amid tech change depends, inter alia, on properly adopting, integrating & employing tech.

We must not only spend more, but better. Europe needs real new capabilities.

European defense manufacturer Helsing presented the CA-1 Europa, a UCAV reportedly capable of performing a range of missions, including deep precision strike.

First test flight expected in 2027.

I'm a connoisseur when it comes to the unpleasantness, tempered by general incompetence, of the British far left. But I'm having trouble thinking of anything that ranks with this.

& we need procurement processes that move at pace, share risk with industry and allow for joint, spiral development of capabilities as militaries integrate and employ them.

In turn, that requires a defence industry that designs software first and for mass production from the ground up, producing the scale needed for the modern battlefield ans the speed required to handle rapid iteration 🧵

And that means getting the new tech out of the ‘innovation corner’ and into programmes of record which can deliver the gains of software defined defence. 🧵

IF we double down on our innovation advantage and get new technologies into the hands of our militaries, *at scale*, so they can experiment, exercise, test & train to get the best out if the new tech. 🧵

Can AI Fight?
Yes! And it will have to if Europe’s democracies are to defend ourselves against the brutal tactics of our authoritarian enemies.

Leveraging AI to deliver autonomous mass capabilities will give us the edge over enemies that don’t care about taking mass human casualties.
