the idea of "bullshit" as different than lying has been an idea I have returned to. I think of those social media ads that pop up around election season - they are neither true nor outright lies, but I feel like we don't have a great terminology to describe aggressively bad-faith argumentation

There is perhaps nothing that makes me feel worse about the prospects of pluralistic democracy than reading posts on NextDoor.

From the LosAngeles community on Reddit: The purple dot shows all the obliterated places in Los Angeles that the national guard came in to save Explore this post and more from the LosAngeles community

An interesting representation of the L.A. protests found on /r/LosAngeles - the purple dot represents the areas of L.A. that the national guard came in to "save." Provocation is the point. www.reddit.com/r/LosAngeles...

'Maximally transparent' DOGE now tells federal court its records are 'not subject to FOIA' The Trump administration is claiming that DOGE records are "not subject to FOIA" requests in response to a government watchdog lawsuit.

It's just such a "strange coincidence" that all the auditors and institutional transparency mechanisms are being dismantled. If only there were some inferences we could draw from this?

I sure hope Brian Glenn brought that same energy when an unconfirmed cabinet appointee showing up in a t-shirt and baseball cap. We may be living in the golden age of bootlicking

This is trolling-qua-diplomacy. I get the sense there are some folks for whom "owning the libs" is the pinnacle of political philosophy, but I just feel shame, embarrassment, and pity for the folks who this either either strong or wise.

One of the key questions I am tracking is how long it will take for detailed information about the chaos and cruelty of the DJT administration to filter down to the low-engagement populace. Can the signal cut through the noise? www.brookings.edu/articles/tra...

Assuming this "happens" - either through a rubber stamp approved process or recess appointment, folks in the Health Communication field may find themselves at the frontline of cultural battles over scientific questions we assumed were settled decades ago. And being ineffective means people will die.

It feels oddly fitting that one of the big pushes of the new administration is to claim they came up with something that already exists and somehow make it worse in every way. www.usaspending.gov
