Autumn used to make me sad but I have come to love its melancholy beauty. May we all find such happiness on a misty morning.

We took an evening stroll on the downs, spotted some orchids, a red kite and a hare, and sat down with some baby grasshoppers for a picnic.
10/10
We love a tapsel gate into a churchyard.
Unique to Sussex, and there are just a handful, they allow a coffin to be passed over the top.
There comes a time in your life when you really start to appreciate a motte and bailey castle. Have you reached it yet?
This stunner is between Truleigh Hill and Devil's Dyke.
A horse chestnut tree in glorious full flower with a rich blue sky behind it.
Happy Beltane, friends
May this surge of energy from the earth put a spring in your step π

The tunnel at Clayton is a sight to behold.
They don't make 'em like that any more.

Outside Ditching is this curiosity... Jacob's Post. It marks the spot where a pedlar was hanged in 1734 after stealing a coat from the landlord of an inn, then slashing his throat before fleeing. Sadly, the Royal Oak closed in 2009 but the post and the story live on.
