i guess to end my rant, you don't need a bajillion dollars and 10 years to make a quality game so yes in a way there is no excuse for AAA studios, but you still need to consider both of those things when complaining about rising costs

AAA studios have a huge work force and tighter deadlines than indie studios with more freedom, and that is understandable. That's why games like Pokemon, Madden or CoD are often disappointing & costly. But the people in charge don't care about making a quality product as long as they can make money

all 5 of the top 5 rated games on metacritic this year at launch:

Hades II ($30)
Expedition 33 ($50)
Blue Prince ($30 or free with PS+)
Split Fiction (technically in the EA family BUT $50 and friends don't need a copy to play with you)
Silksong ($20)

now with the recent emergence of studios like Sandfall, Team Cherry and Hazelight that are making incredible games with teams/budgets at a fraction of the size of studios like Rockstar, Gamefreak and Treyarch, the "you NEED us for good games" mentality does not work at all

this is the correct take but the recent trend of devs saying "you'll find a way to pay if you're a *real* fan" or "look at the water physics. you're getting a bargain at $100" pisses me off especially in this economy
