Watch out for low-quality sources when using Google Deep Research Google Deep Research misses primary news sources in favor of content farms and other low-quality sources that lack depth.

When I used Google Deep Research to learn why Sweden switched back from digital devices to textbooks, it sourced several low-quality content farm sites. In this case, a simple Google search gave me better results. Anyone else have the same experience? #EduSky

Awesome! If teachers understood this, I think they'd use it more. I just need to come up with a less nerdy way of saying "it lowers the activation energy for grading."

I was wondering if the glow and grow is a good low stakes way to start. Did they know the feedback was generated? How did they respond to it?

I can't repost this enough. Just use it. The more I experiment with AI, the more use cases I find for it. Even in the cases where it doesn't work well, I still keep them in the back of my mind so I can try again when a new model is released. #EduSky

This is going to be a lot more important as generative AI renders essays less valuable as a tool for assessing understanding of reading assignments.

For younger kids, use ChatGPT to reword word problems that cater to their interests.

Also try to get them to connect what they do in class with things they experience every day.

"Why do I need to learn about complex numbers?"

Complex numbers help make the animation in video games more smooth and natural.

If they make beats, complex numbers are needed for the EQ and other effects.

If any of your students are athletes, they'll understand putting in the work (doing boring drills, lifting weights, etc.) so that they can compete better in their games. Every day that they do math, they become better problem solvers. People who like solving problems enjoy their jobs a lot more.

Helps me get oriented with large reports, like Unesco's AI Competency Framework for Students/Teachers. I can then send a podcast feed to the other members of our AI working group so they can do the same.

Could be a great #UDL option for students.

Doesn't that depend on for whom it stops working? If a system still works for those with money and power, aren't they in the advantageous position to keep it going regardless of how it's working for others?

I think this is absolutely the way to go. Students will learn more about the content if they have to vet everything in the generated podcast. It's a great way to build their critical reading & listening skills.

Maybe start w/students choosing 1-3 facts/conclusions in the pod they want to challenge.

I feel like the cuts are too quick to make an emotional connection. That and the cuts are all the same length, which feels robotic.

And ChatGPT is great for quickly creating alt-text. Just paste the image and use this prompt.

Create a text description for this image that I can use for an image alt tag. Don't created the code for the tag. Just give me the text.

And it's really easy to use ChatGPT to generate the alt text. It does a great job of describing the image in detail. Just make sure you review and make any necessary tweaks.

That's not to say generative AI shouldn't be used in the creative process, but it should be used thoughtfully. Using AI for feedback on grammar, for example, frees up teachers to connect with students in ways that spark new ideas: a conversation, a joke, a childhood story—all unique to that teacher.
