As a boy, Berkay coined the phrase “Her şey çok güzel olacak” (everything will be beautiful) when he met İmamoğlu on the campaign trail in 2019. It’s still the slogan most closely associated with the mayor. Today Berkay, now a 22yo student, was sent to jail for protesting

Further evidence that the repression Ankara has deployed to erase equal citizenship for Kurds in the southeast—like deposing elected mayors, making party leaders political prisoners & using military force against protesters—is now being expanded to stop Turkey’s top opposition party.

The story from Erdoğan to Trump is “my opponent is very corrupt so he is going to prison, and a few college students are making noise but my police makes them behave.” Of course he likes the message.

In the history of Twitter/X, it’s never been this easy for Erdogan to censor accounts at this rate and speed.

It’s as if he has direct backdoor access to do whatever he wants.

What’s being done to İmamoğlu is very much a descendant of what was done to Demirtaş. The message then and now is if you start to become popular beyond your assigned demographic, you will be crushed.

The CHP at the time not only failed to support him, they were complicit in the plot against him.

İmamoğlu was not imprisoned on terror charges but only because he was already sent down for "corruption".

The AKP can still choose to shut down its biggest rival or appoint a puppet leadership for it (!)

This is really important given the strategy for Erdoğan has been to split the CHP and DEM popular front
