We made Aesop. He is a crowd-sourced literary celebrity. He is the lie that sustains the truth of his stories. And at a time when the distinction between fact and fiction seems paper thin, the way we construct the fictions that support our facts - what we call “a narrative” - matters more than ever.

I must emphasize how incredibly difficult it is to

1. Create quality content at a regular pace
2. Get it seen, heard, or read
3. Receive due compensation and appreciation for hard work that is frequently given away for free or at a low cost for more visibility

Be patient with your favorite indies.

From a distance you can see a mountain landscape with a blue sky and a few hazy clouds. on the sides of the picture you can see parts of trees. On the left in light green, on the right a smaller dark green tree further away. in the center is a black box on which is written in white “Only caring about your own right is exactly how you lose them”.

It was the other way around. I introduced him to Star Trek TNG. We watched it together (in German first, then with the original audio when it became available), and each episode, he would explain why it was so clever.
I miss that

Unbound authors, LOOK AT YOUR CONTRACTS. Below is the standard termination clause in them (in late 2019).

Boundless DOES NOT OWN YOUR BOOK. Consider emailing them and exercising the rights termination.

Because if Boundless doesn’t own any books, well, so sorry, bye-bye, SHOULD HAVE PAID US

The Drowned World duology, Book One

Out NOW

Welcome to Tiankawi - shining pearl of human civilization and a safe haven for those fleeing civil unrest. Or at least, that's how it first appears. But in the semi-flooded city, humans are, quite literally, on top: peering down from shining towers and aerial walkways on the fathomfolk - sirens, seawitches, kelpies and kappas - who live in the polluted waters below.

For half-siren Mira, promotion to captain of the border guard means an opportunity to help her downtrodden people. But if earning the trust and respect of her human colleagues wasn't hard enough, everything Mira has worked towards is put in jeopardy when Nami, a know-it-all water dragon - fathomfolk royalty - is exiled to the city. When extremists sabotage the annual boat race, violence erupts, as does the clampdown on fathomfolk rights. Both Nami and Mira must decide if the cost of change is worth it, or, if Tiankawi should be left to drown.

The bigot groups are now demanding NHS England shut down the puberty blocker trial: teens will never be able to use different facilities to those for their assigned gender at birth, so the whole rationale for transition “has fallen away”. Pure evil.

Periodic reminder that you should tell indie authors that you read our work and what you liked about it. We are absolutely starving for feedback most of the time. This goes doubly for your favorite trans authors, many of whom are barely hanging on right now.

🧵I am a woman. I do not conform however to the 'ideal' appearance of a woman. I can't help that. As a result of my appearance I have been subjected to all kinds of shit over the years. What this ruling will do is embolden some women to attack other women based on their appearance.

Coincidentally, today I received two publishing contracts (small, but very cool). Both included anti-AI clauses that I had insisted upon. These (see below) are suggested by the Australian Society of Authors, but applicable anywhere. Use them. Protect your rights as a creator.

I'm not going to stop saying this. We need to stop calling it "deporting." It may not always be fair or humane, but deportation has a process. And it means you're sent back to where you came from. These people are being trafficked and sold to slave prisons. Not deported.

There's his main motivation right there... his overwhelming childish need for fealty is his main driver. The best thing the rest of the world can do is to stop feeding it.

Please join us in asking Meta to #DoTheWriteThing today. Authors want to see an end to generative AI stealing our work for private profit.

Meta used 10 of my books, plus several anthologies I'm in. You can guarantee Meta will make more money today than most writers make in a year.

Pay writers.

People love giving the media shit, but if anything we understate its role in spreading populism. It unquestioningly accepts its narratives and persistently holds its politicians to a lower standard than mainstream ones.
