A line graph depicting the average number of days it took to install a gigawatt of solar energy capacity worldwide from 2001 to 2023. The vertical axis represents the number of days on a logarithmic scale, spanning from 1 to 1000 days. The horizontal axis indicates the years from 2001 to 2023.

In 2004, the average time was about 1 year, which is marked on the graph. A downward trend shows significant decreases in installation time over the years. By 2010, it took under 30 days, and by 2015, just over 7 days. The most notable point is in 2023, where it dropped to about 1 day on average for installation.

The data source is attributed to IRENA (2024), with calculation by Our World in Data, and the chart is identified as CC BY, indicating it is licensed for sharing and adaptation with appropriate credit.

In 2004, it took the world a year to add a gigawatt of solar power β€” now it takes a day

illustration of a scene featuring tall reddish brick buildings in an urban environment with potted plants on the ground. the light is shining on the side of a central building with a stairway, on which we can see a cat licking itself clean, exposing its rear to the camera.

1. VPN set outside the US
2. Revanced CLI patch tiktok v36.5.4, enabling "SIM spoof", "Spoof SIM country", & "Disable login requirement" patches *from 5.4.0, NOT 5.8.1*
(Spoof SIM country may need ISO codes set via command line as well, not sure)
3. A new non-US account

Update: I got tiktok to work again, but it was way harder than I was expecting. A VPN alone isn't enough and US accounts seem inaccessible no matter what.
It's unfortunately hard enough that most people won't be able to it
I'll put my method below but it needs a VPN, android phone, & PC :/

I'll still use it via a VPN for however long it's down but losing so many creators sucks. Consolidation in social media sucks. Rednote censorship sucks. All the potential outcomes are worse!

Last iceland. Black sand beach near Vik, ocean on the left, towering cliff with sparse greenery on the right. They have very climbable rocks there!
Also made the brilliant decision/mistake of walking down to the far side of the beach in the wind and rain. Was soaked over an hour. Friendlier puffins down there though

October 10th aurora! Greens lower down, pinks higher up, very defined banding. Some stars visible, black trees in the foreground.
Drove out to a hilltop golf course and stood outside freezing for five hours to watch for it. Got a ~10 minute period of very visible lights. Absolutely worth it

View looking over the treeline from the summit of a mountain, taken from a fire tower. All conifers, at that elevation. More forested mountains in the distance. Made for a great day trip! One of two summits that day.

Gratified interior room of a long abandoned building, an empty window showing the top of the treeline. Part of the Fort de la Chartreuse in Liege, Belgiumβ€”a fort turned barrack turned prison turned military hospital turned public park. Really cool history, and awesome urbex spot. I met a couple walking their dog in here!

A vegetated area in the hills around Maastricht, NL, partially excavated with massive vertical rectangular cut-ins as part of a limestone quarry. They were really cool to walk around in! There's a whole cross-border tunnel system down there because of these.
This photo in particular is from a multi-hour hike where I tried to cross the Belgian border via trail to this epic pizza place that I was so excited to eat at and then take the bus back from until google maps lied to me and the rest of the trail actually didn't exist!!
At the end I tried to see if there was a sidewalk along the nearby road but there wasn't and then a man came out of his house to talk to me and I got scared so I hiked all the way back to my hostel hungry :)

Keukenhof gardens in Lisse, western NL. Flowing rows of pink and orange tulips, surrounded by trees.
My first trip here, I restarted my phone and inadvertently locked myself out because my new SIM card required a pin to turn the phone on that I did not have :) I am still angry this feature exists and was turned ON by default
Anyway gorgeous garden for like the first hour after opening, then it was swamped with people
