GOP dysfunction in a nutshell: This week, Donald Trump is not appointing horribly unqualified people to federal jobs because Mike Johnson insists on protecting Jeffrey Epstein.

I also hope people take a moment to think what this means for unhoused people who also have no regular access to clean water. Sanitation isn’t just about being clean, it’s about the most basic things we need to live. Laws of exclusion, against anyone, decimate human health.

But remember: people who can’t regularly safely void also can’t do the most essential thing for any of these problems, which is to drink tons of water and flush your system. Which is only possible if you can access a bathroom. This is even worse if you can’t access healthcare safely or regularly.

When you can’t urinate, your bladder stretches, and your pelvic floor muscles strain. And while the bladder can stretch way more than you think (over a liter, actually), doing so for prolonged periods of time begins to wear away at the whole system. Your pelvic floor muscles lose strength.

I did not expect that throwaway thought from yesterday to take off so here’s a thread about bathroom access and human health. It’s bleak, but it’s really important to illustrate how the framing about “comfort” is intentionally used to obscure a whole range of downstream, intentional lasting harms.

I want to add with the sexism, racism, misinformation, oligarchs controlling the media, Biden stepped down & help Kamala to be the nominee. A decent number of WP voted for Biden in 2020, but a good number sat out when Kamala was on top of the ticket. You were fine she was #2. What’s the difference?

I swear a ton of people drive like they do politics, whatever vibes they have at the time. Granted I'm a very cautious driver and always have been (I'm the old lady who obeys speed limits and signals for lane changes and merges early), but even so, damn.

i read something the other day about how there's a blocklist which a lot of trans folks follow which flags all dems as right-wing, so anyone who follows it doesn't see anything the dems post at all and convince each other that the dems are going to knife them

Oh yea. It’s not like Dems are above criticism or anything. But when you are posting about “Why aren’t Dems doing this!!!” When there are posts from Dems doing exactly that (topping out at 50 likes) then it’s more of an indictment on your media diet than on Dems.
