Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. Itโ€™s always a matter of will not resources.

This is what ICE does every day. Hunt little kids who are here legally. They get sent to a place called the โ€œbaby jailโ€ in Texas. Very little of it ends up on video like this. But itโ€™s routine. And disgusting.

The Virginia Supreme Court has ruled that the state can put aย redistricting planย on the ballot this spring that could add as many as four more Democratic seats in Congress.

On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamillaโ€™s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being โ€œserved food that contained worms.โ€

A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees.

The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasnโ€™t for detainees โ€” it was for the staff.

Conservatives Play Musical Chairs to โ€œCementโ€ Majority on Arkansas High Court - Bolts How seat-switching, plus a new state law, is helping gubernatorial appointees reap the benefits of incumbency before theyโ€™ve earned it from voters.

NEW: Arkansas bars public officials who've been appointed by the governor to seek a full term for their position.

The 2 justices appointed by Governor Sanders are using a way around that โ€”ย they're just running for each other's seats.

Section 745.51 effectively authorizes the imposition of a sentence of imprisonment for life without a realistic possibility of parole. This punishment is, by its very nature, intrinsically incompatible with human dignity. It is degrading in nature in that it presupposes at the time of its imposition that the offender is beyond redemption and lacks the moral autonomy needed for rehabilitation. Although Parliament has latitude to establish sentences whose severity expresses societyโ€™s condemnation of the offence committed, it may not prescribe a sentence that deprives every offender on whom it is imposed of any realistic possibility of parole from the outset. To ensure respect for human dignity, Parliament must leave a door open for rehabilitation, even in cases where this objective is of minimal importance. This objective is intimately linked to human dignity in that it conveys the conviction that every individual is capable of repenting and reโ€‘entering society. The intent here is not to have the objective of rehabilitation prevail over all the others, but rather to preserve a certain place for it in a penal system based on respect for the inherent dignity of every individual, including the vilest of criminals. Where the offence of first degree murder is concerned, rehabilitation is already subordinate to the objectives of denunciation and deterrence, as can be seen from the severity of the mandatory minimum sentence for this offence.

The straightforward and unflinching analysis in this Canadian Supreme Court opinion really highlights how the U.S. Supreme Court, in contrast, bends over backwards to be as vengeful and merciless as possible: decisions.scc-csc.ca/scc-csc/scc-...

- In 2022, the Supreme Court of Canada abolished life without parole under this clause as "degrading" and "so absurd that it would bring the administration of justice into disrepute."

Democrats scored a major upset last night in Texas. Taylor Rehmet, a union leader, flipped a state Senate seat in the Fort Worth region.

The win represents a turnaround for a district that tends to be reliably red and voted for President Trump by a large margin in the fall of 2024.

CIVIL CASE NO. SA-26-CV-415-FB ยง OPINION AND ORDER OF THE COURT

Civics lesson to the government: Administrative warrants issued by the executive branch to itself do not pass probable cause muster. That is called the fox guarding the henhouse. The
Constitution requires an independent judicial officer.
Accordingly, the Court finds that the Constitution of these United States trumps this
administration's detention of petitioner Adrian Conejo Arias and his minor son, L.C.R. The Great Writ
and release from detention are GRANTED pursuant to the attached Judgment.
Observing human behavior confirms that for some among us, the perfidious lust for unbridled
power and the imposition of cruelty in its quest know no bounds and are bereft of human decency. And
the rule of law be damned.

Ultimately, Petitioners may, because of the arcane United States immigration system, return to
their home country, involuntarily or by self-deportation. But that result should occur through a more
orderly and humane policy than currently in place.

I'm planning on coming.
The problem is that I was just asked to make a presentation, telephonically or by video

Would it be appropriate/possible to come by at 6:45 and stay an hour -- or would that be
disruptive.
I'm so sorry; this just came up.
