Screen shot of book description whichs reads: This book addresses the importance of the body in legal theory, through an analysis of the film 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.

As physical beings, we experience law in sensations of outrage when it is applied unethically, righteousness when it finds justice, and joy when it establishes partnerships in marriage. Our bodies feel and know law. In Embodiment and Legal Theory, it is argued that our bodies also theorise law. It is proposed that our bodies are involved in comprehending, negotiating and reimagining the legal concepts that shape our lives. As a medium designed to engage us by stimulating our bodily reactions of tears, laughter, shock and titillation, cinema provides an ideal site for exploring how bodies participate in legal arguments and the construction of legal meaning. For this reason, through a deep analysis of the film Fifty Shades of Grey (2014), this book presents a theory of embodied jurisprudence.

At the intersection of legal theory and film studies, this book will appeal to students and scholars in both these areas, as well as in criminology and cultural studies.

I wonder if all the trends towards embodiment-based theorising/practice across disprate domains (e.g. the coincidence of embodied cognition in cogsci, somatic approaches to therapy, gender wars over policing the body ... as trends) is something to do with the collapse of the superstructure

Good lord I respond so well to SSRIs. I feel a lot of grief for not being able to get on them when I was a teen due to growing up in an anti-med/anti-vax household.

I really didn't like the final season of Stranger things much. Particularly felt 11 got such a crappy hand with character development and then sacrificing herself. Just rewatching and realised it actually kinda made sense as a response to Hopper taking that suicide vest.

As you read the news today, watch who phrases the news as an "illegal invasion and regime change" versus "bringing democracy". It'll tell you everything you need to know about the news source you're reading, and frankly should decide whether you ever read them seriously again.

i’m sure threatening a country with devastation is a great way to achieve a lasting peace. when does the rest of the world team up to show the united states the days of it throwing its weight (and military) around are over?

I tend to find 'bad' essays more time consuming to mark because the cognitive effort of providing useful feedback is higher. Could find that annoying, but it's actually much more productive for getting to grip with what 'good' writing is.

Cursed... A career journalist who has zero involvement in actual class-based organising diagnoses our present issues as stemming from 'toxic victimhood' and 'woke' politics. This is so far away from the concrete issues we deal with in actual organising that wins results.

The people talking about a general strike need to check out Trump's approval ratings. Most people don't even understand they're getting screwed or how.

Dear US scientists,

We've been hearing a lot of questions of the form
"Why aren't universities doing anything!? They need to speak out!"

We can explain.

It's bad news. We're on our own. But understanding why can help us all figure out our plan.

Police tried to protect a small group of armed neo-Nazis from angry community members today on a freeway overpass in #Ohio, people managed to push through police as the Nazis escaped in a box truck.

Young people then set fire to a stolen Nazi flag.

If anyone claims that the current anti-trans panic was caused in any part by trans people advocating for our human rights, that person is lying through their teeth.

The religious right lost on marriage equality, and immediately started going after trans people instead. That's what happened.

This is huge. My petition got approved. It challenges the UK government to the lift the Puberty Blocker ban on the grounds that it contradicts article 8 of The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child.

People who ask questions like "is that allowed?" or "is that legal?" really misunderstand the spirit of Crime Season.
Laws are just words decided via a public ceremony and what's allowed is whatever you can do if nothing stops you. Crime Season is all about learning whether anything will stop you.

Senator Andy Kim just went to the USAID building, talked to the security guard there to confirm employees are being barred entry, and then did a press gaggle right there in front to call it out.

This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.

You might criticise me for zeroing in on a single sentence, when there are many things he says that are in the right direction. But with this sentence, he concedes to the central dogma driving this wave of fascism. If he doesn't want to focus on it, he could simply not mention it.

Watched a Bernie yday Haven't been paying attention to him, couldn't stand his prevarication on naming the genocide in Palestine as a genocide. Wanted to see whether the current juncture has made him shift gears. "Of course, we need to strengthen the border"...

Book burning?
If everything was digital in Hitler's 1930s Germany, this is what his book burning would have looked like: deletion of data, removal of websites, retraction of scientific studies, censorship of words like "equity," "diversity," "climate change."
