I tried Turkish delight for the first time today. It was otherwise unremarkable, but the rosewater aftertaste was such a Proustian moment that brought to mind images of my grandparent's furniture, living room, chinaware, and neighborhood markets. It was good but not betray-my-siblings good.

The economic ruin wrought upon us is an asset to the authoritarian because it weakens the economic thereby political power of the people while consolidating theirs. Don’t expect an uprising when things get “bad enough,” because we will be so demoralized and desperate with no power left to resist.

As any economist who's not Peter Navarro will tell you, a tariff will:
1. transfer part of your wealth to uncompetitive corporations
2. convert part of your wealth into gov't revenue and thereby relieving the tax burden on corporations
3. lose a part of your wealth into the void as deadweight loss
