The research to debunk RFK Jr.’s ableist statements is simply overwhelming, but these memories are all teachers ever need to ascertain the truth and uplift humanity.

RFK Jr.’s statements regarding autism are profoundly inaccurate and insensitive. With 15+ years in the classroom, I can vividly recall the beautiful memories of the numerous kids on the spectrum; they are kind, brilliant, empathetic, generous, productive, and more than capable.

#BlackHistoryMonth Inspired by my online history hero Chris Dier, I wanna contribute Black history that prolly wasn’t taught in schools. Blacks in the 1930s picketed businesses that wouldn’t hire them. Yt businesses sued but the Supreme sided with protesters.

Claiming that the act of doing a Nazi salute was simply a symptom of autism is insulting to people with autism.

I’m currently writing my dissertation on how policy impacts education, and I just noticed that the Executive Orders signed under Biden are no longer accessible.

Biden’s first executive order directed federal agencies to amend policies to consider racial inequities. It has been pulled.

Even *if* the salute that looked identical to a Nazi salute was somehow not a Nazi salute, then it demonstrates that one of the most powerful people in the world is willfully ignorant of one of the most hateful gestures in history.

I'm seeing terms like "straight-arm salute" and "fascist salute" being used by some media today... those are not real terms. Google's Ngram Viewer has zero results for either one. It's a "Nazi salute," folks, just fucking say it. This shit's too fucked up to use hedgy language.

Invoking the words of MLK at the inauguration of a man who promised to implement policies destined to harm people is a disingenuous act of historical treachery.

It's fascinating to teach US History in an era where young people are strongly advocating for a more diverse, objective, and inclusive curriculum while the powers that be are doing everything to halt that push. We are witnessing both an ideological & generational divide in real-time.

Chris Dier | Collective trauma and collective hope | Teachers in Their Power –Chris Dier Teacher at Ben Franklin High SchoolNew Orleans, LA

β€œThat’s when I realized how teachers mobilize in so many different ways, beyond just showing up in the classroom. They’re community activists and advocates, and that’s why teachers are so overwhelmed sometimes.”

Louisiana issues guidance as law requiring Ten Commandments in classrooms goes into effect β€’ Louisiana Illuminator Liz Murrill issued guidance to public schools and universities on how to comply with a new law requiring the Ten Commandments in classrooms.

As the plaintiff representing teachers in Dier v. Landry et al. concerning the Ten Commandments law (HB 71), it must be noted that the Middle District of Louisiana confirmed that HB 71 is unconstitutional in the Roake case. This means that complying with this request would violate the 1st Amendment.

Never forget that the attacks on public education, from suppressing teacher autonomy and bashing unions to passing anti-CRT/DEI/trans legislation and book bans, are designed to erode public education to pave the way for mass privatization.

Just as they tried to erased the events that occurred during Reconstruction. In the 21st century, historians like yourself have a platform to expose it in real-time. Your voice is needed more than ever.

Agreed. I'd argue many of the dystopian issues we see today is due to a society prioritizing STEM at the expense of the humanities.

Wicked, The Wizard of Oz, and the Blacklisted Lyricist Yip Harburg By Amy Goodman & Denis Moynihan With just weeks from Donald Trump’s inauguration to his second term as president, and with a timely focus on challenging authority ushered in by the hit movie…

Music from "The Wizard of Oz" has inspired people for generations, but the lyricist who wrote those classics β€” E.Y. β€œYip” Harburg β€” was blacklisted by Hollywood during the McCarthy era and remains largely unknown to the public.

In this way, manipulating curricula helps institutions engender an uncritical populace that is less likely to question the status quo, recognize/resist inequality, or demand change. By controlling the narrative, elites influence generations in ways that preserve their power.

Distorting history intentionally minimizes or erases the struggles of marginalized groups, thus making it easier to maintain existing social hierarchies and avoid accountability for past wrongdoings.

By altering or omitting key events, such as social injustices or waves of political dissent, elites promote a version of the past that supports their current agenda.

No one understands the true power of objective history better than the powers that distort it. Institutions often seek to distort social studies curricula because controlling the narrative gives them the power to shape public perception, reinforce political ideologies, and maintain authority.

Moreover, history empowers students to engage meaningfully in political processes, hold institutions accountable, & confront systemic issues, ensuring that societies evolve in ways that are just, sustainable, and capable of meeting the challenges of an interconnected world.

When honest history is taught, void of distortion/omission, it helps build a shared sense of identity, solidarity, & mutual respect across diverse communities, which inevitably promotes social cohesion & reduces divisions.
