In the face of Trump's climate assault, Bill McKibben proposes a sun-soaked path forward.
"It's really beautiful to imagine relying on a power source that you can't hoard."
If you feel yourself slipping into climate doomerism like I have lately, I implore you to read/listen to this convo with @billmckibben.bsky.social. It genuinely helped me see a path forward

The renewable energy revolution is a feat of technology | Rebecca Solnit
An energy revolution is underway in this century, though most people have not noticed it
An energy revolution is underway in this century, though it’s unfolded in ways slow enough and technical enough for most people not to notice (and I assume it’s nowhere near finished). It is astonishing – a powerful solution to the climate crisis... [Wrote it a while ago; came out yesterday.]

Even on an overcast, damp day, the new solar panels are providing over 5.5x more electricity than we're consuming. The excess is all going into the national grid.
Can't wait to see what the ratio will be when the sun shines!

Game changer: Mayo project uses kites to generate power
A project in Co Mayo is generating renewable electricity through the flying of kites, which its operator has described as a potential "game changer" in the wind energy sector.
“A single kite is currently capable of amassing up to 30 kilowatts of free electricity per hour that can be stored and used later.Kitepower says kites are twice as efficient as conventional wind turbines at capturing wind energy.”

4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment
In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.
Globally, roughly a third more power is being generated from the sun this spring than last. If this exponential rate of growth can continue, we will soon live in a very different world, @billmckibben.bsky.social writes.

The Eirgrid dashboard now shows daily solar generation. Four years ago, this would have been a flat line.
This doesn't even include rooftop solar which reduces the demand on the grid.

We want to see children’s rights prioritized above polluting flights. Every sector needs to play its part in tackling climate change, including aviation. Increasing flights is reckless in the face of the climate emergency.
