For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme #EyeContact - this is a portrait of an Abdim's Stork. It's dark purple plumage makes it almost invisible against the dark background. 🪶

A brilliant yellow songbird stares directly at the camera. Only one of its eyes and some head and chest feathers are in crisp focus.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme of “eye contact” has me immediately thinking of songbird banding sessions I’ve sat in on at Oak Hammock Marsh, Manitoba. Every captured bird gives its own variation of stink-eye while data is collected. This yellow warbler is saying it’s got places to be – dammit. #birds

Ha ha, oh I’m sorry for your hand – stuff like that is just muscle memory here. But extreme cold wears on everyone – the trunk of our car has been frozen shut for two weeks but finally popped open today under bright sunshine and only 1° fahrenheit.

Lord love ’em.

Love fox sparrows. I get one blessed April week each year where they come and kick the snot out of every dead leaf in the yard.

This was a COVID drawing and one that I am rather proud of. Based on my own photo of one of the birds that nest in our yard each year. This illustration is actually included in the Wingspan fan art pack.
