03.02.2026 21:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A silhouetted blackbird perches atop a cattail in a prairie marsh at sunset. The sky glows in tones of orange.
Two very young American coot chicks navigate plants and sludge in a prairie wetland. Iβ¦ I canβt even begin to describe these things.
A large white egret stalks prey in thick wetland vegetation. Itβs neck is stretched forward, eyes intent on something under the water.
A windblown great horned owl takes shelter in a βduck tunnelβ, a man-made nesting tube meant for duck hens to nest within. The owl does not look happy.
February 2 is #WorldWetlandsDay, an occasion Iβm grateful for each and every year, as the conservation of wetlands has sustained my love of birds, as well as a 27-year career as graphic designer for Ducks Unlimited Canada. Show them some love on this important day: www.ducks.ca #birds

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme #EyeContact - this is a portrait of an Abdim's Stork. It's dark purple plumage makes it almost invisible against the dark background. πͺΆ

29.01.2026 22:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A brilliant yellow songbird stares directly at the camera. Only one of its eyes and some head and chest feathers are in crisp focus.
Todayβs #BirdOfTheDay theme of βeye contactβ has me immediately thinking of songbird banding sessions Iβve sat in on at Oak Hammock Marsh, Manitoba. Every captured bird gives its own variation of stink-eye while data is collected. This yellow warbler is saying itβs got places to be β dammit. #birds

Day 23 - White-breasted Nuthatch
This was a COVID drawing and one that I am rather proud of. Based on my own photo of one of the birds that nest in our yard each year. This illustration is actually included in the Wingspan fan art pack.
