1. In many PA counties, and I believe Berks is one, the initial bail decision is made JUST by the police (who are a party here) and a magistrate judge. That can hold for up to 2 weeks.

2. I just learned that magistrate judges need no legal education and get four weeks of training.

This is one of those things that’s inherently a due process violation because it’s not process at all.
