Idk how good of a proposal it is for financial institutions either - even retirement funds don't have that long of an investing timeline.

(of course if the 50yr loan was to be introduced, this would be solved by taxpayers subsidizing said institutions in one way or another)

This is like 8 times more expensive than the secret police/concentration camp bill, and it would benefit poor people. I think enough Congress R's might balk at this too, especially when the effectiveness of it is uncertain.

I think it would be pretty bad if it happened (since fixing the US will require large Dem majorities to begin with, and blunting the blue wave would be enough to mostly stop it), but weren't they supposed to give everyone a $2k "DOGE check" too?

That is the best time to do it, otherwise you won't know how well it performs. Excellent way to demonstrate the technocratic prowess of his administration.

Basically non-cash payments create a substantial economic surplus, and the question is whether that surplus is split between the customer, retailer and CC processors, or if most of it is taken up by the oligopolists. But even in the latter example retailers still might benefit somewhat.

I mean, interchange fees in Europe are capped at 0.2-0.3%. So idk, but I feel like that's a good tradeoff. Certainly it helps making adoption more widespread, since total fees on CCs can be brought below 1%. And mobile payments can bring this down below 0.5%, using the same terminals and acquirers.

I mean I don't think it was consensual really, especially after the point when seeing her somewhat shaken he proposed to relax and take it slow, only to sharply escalate soon after.
The very beginning could've been simply a result of a misunderstanding.
