Idk I think that depends on whether you think Guilbeault was effective at advancing measures to combat climate change

A bunch of people noticed! And got accused of covering up for Amazon by blaming the suffering family farmers.

Listen I'm boycotting Amazon like everyone else

But that county has multiple megadairies & a history of manure spills. A few minutes of searching pulled up one dairy with 28,000 cows, another with 70,000 cows.

Respectfully, how does anyone think *Amazon* is the reason their water is a mess?

'The Precedent Is Flint': How Oregon's Data Center Boom Is Supercharging a Water Crisis Amazon data centers constructed in eastern Oregon's farmland have worsened a water pollution problem that’s been linked to cancer and miscarriages.

Rolling Stone: clearly documents a 30+ year long con job. A rural county's own leadership lined their pockets by helping ag interests destroy the water supply.

Everyone who read the article apparently??: Amazon data centers did this in 2011

Today I was interviewed on NewsTalk1010 about the City of Toronto's plan to install 20mk of new bike lines by reducing the width of vehicle lanes. You can listen below, starting at 12:16.
Bike lanes do reduce traffic congestion, but only once there is a contiguous network so people can get from origin to destination safely. Bits and pieces of bike lanes won't cut it.
Data from other cities shows a reduction in car volume once there is a good enough network, but you need to be patient--people don't switch modes overnight.
Narrower vehicle lanes result in slower driving and less safety incidents. In general, travel time is not significantly impacted, that comes more from red lights and congestion than slower average speed.
There is no single solution to improving congestion. It's complex. That's where GIS and next-generation modeling and simulation come in. With this technology, we can analyze the data and figure out what combination of changes will deliver the best outcomes. That's the work we're focused on here at Esri Canada.

Confederation was worth it because it essentially guaranteed that every few months at least one province's political leaders would do something wild that everyone in the other provinces could enjoy purely as entertainment.

The River is a spiritual analog for the St. Lawrence, which flows into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. But it could also be being used as a general term for a void or a space of holding, or for a breach between two spaces.

Guilbeault seems to be hanging his claims on his policies being better 15-20 years from now. Cool, but California is retiring their last coal plants this week, while Canada (same population) will still be burning coal in the early 2030s. Seems like we fucked up!

03.12.2025 16:54 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Texas doesn’t have a Clean Electricity Standard or an industrial carbon price. Why are they installing so much more new renewables than Canada did under Guilbeault? And that’s not a new thing - their edge goes back to the early 2010s. Does it not show up in his analysis?

03.12.2025 16:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There’s also the fundamental problem for Guilbeault that *he was in charge of policy for four years*. During that time, did we see massive increases in new or planned renewable power? Not at all! Texas routinely installed 2x-3x more annually. If these policies were so good, why didn’t they work?

Yup - and demands like Heather McPherson's, that the loans to Algoma should've required job guarantees, are *actively harmful* to decarbonization. The *right* answer is what the Carney gov't is doing: extending EI, funding retraining programs, and focusing on developing other sectors.

In fairness, there are a few (major) elements of the Canadian constitution that require unanimous agreement.

But, that said, I continue to think a lot of what's wrong with American democracy can be traced to basic structural problems like these, particularly point #3.

#ChimneySwifts are ENDANGERED #SpeciesAtRisk in NS.
These birds tend to nest in urban chimneys, hence the name. Chimney Swift have brown–grey feathers with a distinguished pointed body, long narrow wings, and short tail. Their flight is described as rapid and jerky.

D2's got a revenue shortfall, but we could probably reasonably support that if we stopped building exurb sprawl into the near end and if Districts 3, 4 (hi Trish), 6, 11, 12, 13, and 15 shaped up. The problem is the suburbs and exurbs.

03.12.2025 13:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It would be great if the city's revenues properly aligned with our recapitalization needs (roads - it's all roads) so that we could also afford to properly support an operational budget to cover staff that accurately support rural areas.

03.12.2025 13:32 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's not *necessary* - "sprawl" is about new builds, which doesn't strictly have to impact the existing urban density. But we *did* reduce density in areas that formerly had more dense residences through things like banning rooming houses, expanding auto infrastruture, tearing down apts...

"but what about seniors and people on fixed incomes!" is a terrible argument against fixing the property tax cap issue

there are ways to mitigate that in the specific circumstances where it is an issue

but seniors aren't the only people struggling with expenses, you feel me? COL is rising for all!

03.12.2025 12:55 β€” πŸ‘ 30    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 7    πŸ“Œ 0

Likewise removing the cap will not result in huge increases the first year. The total assessment value will jump up massively. The tax *rate* will drop massively.

9 capped homes paying $3,000/year and one paying $5,000 becomes 10 homes paying $3,200. Not a jump to $5,000 for everyone.

03.12.2025 12:56 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

It’s also that the city’s recap costs - roads, pipes, buildings - increase in line with *land value* not in line with general inflation. The city can often crank the rate down some with assessment growth, but sooner or later that land value catches up with us.

03.12.2025 12:55 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

This is accurate. The province has been offloading roads on HRM, not vice versa. City staff having control of road naming is obnoxious but the cost to the city of that is $0.
